ABP location

Thanks for addressing my question, but one remains: why ABP? Why not Toscaninnis, the Garage, or a multitude of other places? (Well, two remain): what time will it be over? If I'm there late, will anyone castrate me? -[[User:Mysekurity|Mysekurity]] [[additions | e-mail]] 03:28, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Boloco!

Check out Boloco, a new addition to our set of regular venues.

meet-up

hey, i'm a relatively new boston wikipedian (going to college at northeastern, been living here my whole life), i looked at the agenda a bit, but im still not sure really sure what you guys do at such gatherings; mostly just talk and eat? anyway, i might be interested in meeting up. if not the 10th then another date perhaps!--Gozar 23:30, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, just talking and eating for the most part, getting to know (face-to-face) some of the local Wikipedians. Occasionally there is some additional event planning (e.g. as when Wikimania was being held in town). —Steven G. Johnson (talk) 19:48, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tonight's the night

Who's coming to the Simmons College meetup (1 hour from now)? I know I'll be there!--Alhutch 22:54, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That was fun...

next meetup date?

When is the next scheduled meetup? I am definitely interested in attending and also learning more about the upcoming conference...but looking for some advance notice so I can plan :) Jpittman 21:37, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Check the main meetup page for updates; usually we meet twice a month, around once every two weeks. This week we may also meet Wednesday for wiki wed... +sj + 18:03, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not currently active?

Have the meetups died out, or have they merely gone undocumented? Andjam 02:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NB: we should really document things here, and stop using Meetup save as a calendar/email system +sj + 20:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, there continue to be regular meetups in Cambridge, they just are no longer documented here. The place to look is the Boston Wikipedia Meetup Group on meetup.com. (In fact, the next meetup is tomorrow, 12 Feb. 2007, at the Central Sq. Toscannini's on Main St. in Cambridge.) —Steven G. Johnson 04:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are there really still meeting regularly? From all appearances, the meetup.com page has not been updated in a very, very long time, and the scheduling of new events is just automatic.--Pharos (talk) 06:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Too busy watching football :) --Tom 14:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not any more :-) +sj + 20:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly, it's really hard to tell if there have been any actual meetups in the last half-year or not. Can someone fill me in? By the way, the meetup.com page is about to disappear in 12 days.--Pharos (talk) 03:08, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We've been meeting alternately in Harvard Square and at the Tosci's (on the month). There was some billing snag; I'm hoping to get WP meetups to be free for everyone, but that won't happen soonest. At any rate, we're set to have another gathering on Monday at Harvard Law School. +sj +
I think the last one I made was late summer, so I'm not sure what is going on. The best person to ask would probably be User:sj, who has been one of the prime Wikipedia organizers in the area. —Steven G. Johnson (talk) 03:46, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the interest!

Is there anyone here interested in a Providence, Rhode Island meetup? --mikeu (talk) 15:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've scheduled Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 for the first Providence meetups. --mikeu talk 13:48, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interested in what we're doing in New York?

Check out WP:MEET/NYC, WP:WTM, WP:WLART and meta:Wikimedia New York City. And maybe if you give more notice on your meeting next time, we can join you. Because we're interested in what you're doing too! Thanks.--Pharos (talk) 19:18, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fall 2009 Meetup in Providence?

I'm trying to schedule another Providence Meetup for the Fall. Please drop a note at Fall 2009 dates? expressing interest and preferences for dates/times. --mikeu talk 13:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Geonotice

I'm thinking about requesting a geonotice for our meetup on June 14th. The notice would be posted from May 15 through June 15, and would be viewable on the Watchlist of editors in Massachusetts. What are others' thoughts? Emw (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, as I said at one of the meetups. Keeping it up on June 15 for a meetup on June 14 seems pointless, though. Ucucha 16:06, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. I'll ask that the notice be removed at 1:00 UTC on June 15, i.e. 9:00 PM June 14 local time. Emw (talk) 22:15, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's the deal?

Now wait a sec. It says here that there is a June 14 meetup at Red Bones in Somerville. And it says HERE here that there is a June 15 meetup at the Grafton Street Pub in Cambridge.

So what's the deal? Are these rival groups? Is this like the Jets and the Sharks? Can I attend both, or do I risk being kneecapped by one group if I attend the other's meetup, or what? And if I attend neither, then will both groups be out to get me? Herostratus (talk) 18:23, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The information on the meetup.com page has not yet been updated. The information on Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston is correct. Cheers, Emw (talk) 18:37, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How'd the June 15 meetup go?

How did everything go? Did the geonotice help to bring in some new people, I hope?--Pharos (talk) 20:19, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The geonotice seemed to significantly increase turnout. About 15 people came. Of the four previous Boston meetups I've been to since Fall 2009, I recall the number of attendees as something like 4, 5, 3, and 8.
While the restaurant was nice, the seating was unideal. The group sat at a string of pushed-together square tables in a corner of the restaurant. The long table ran lengthwise against a wall, with a cushioned bench on the wall side and chairs on the other side. This caused people sitting on the wall-side bench to be immobilized once they sat down, unless they felt like asking a handful of people to get up, shimmy down the table, and let them out (and similarly inconvenience them when getting back to their seat). It would have been better if we sat at a long table where one half weren't pushed against a wall. Better still, maybe, would have been to sit in a cluster of circular tables.
Also, I imagine it would have minimized confusion to have some way of knowing how to recognize people who were coming to the meetup. By and large, Wikipedians don't what know each look like. From my experience this is usually solved by waiting outside the meeting place (typically a restaurant) and asking likely candidates also waiting outside if they're there for the meetup. There should be a better way.
Another issue in meetup groups of this size is remembering people's names, or their usernames. I suppose people's conversation stands on its own merit, but in face-to-face meetups of such size I think it'd be nice to have the option of, say, using name tags to keep track of people.
Those minor issues aside, I think things went well. I met editors whose work I'd previously admired and got to talk with them in some detail about it. Emw (talk) 00:07, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, I don't actually LIVE in Boston full time

I come here every summer, I'll be here through July 22. And I don't know anyone seeing as I just joined a few minutes ago, Lol

September

If it's been scheduled, what is the date and time of the meetup in September? I'll be in Boston for a couple of days next month, so if the timing is right I may be able to attend. Thanks. Newyorkbrad (talk) 00:40, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The meetup is always held on the second Monday of the month. I believe the September meetup will follow that, so it will be September 13 at 1900 EST. 173.48.43.197 (talk) 01:40, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's correct, as noted here: http://www.meetup.com/wikipedia-5/. Emw (talk) 11:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, (I'm a new-ish contributor, mostly in liturgical arts, American colonial and French medieval areas, with broad backgrounding in music, theater, dance and art history. I do tours in the area, teach, and write on the early burying grounds and church history sites. Is there a Welcome Wagon packet for me? :--})

Anyway: Please note, the restaurant known as "Lee's" in Harvard Square (on Church St. near the corner with Brattle) has been sold and is now called "The Harvard Square Cafe." Penny's staff is still there in part, and no changes in the booths, etc., have been made, but if anyone is trying to find it, the name has shifted (although the "Lee's" Part is still under the awning, they just don't light that part any more.

I have some "real life" writing deadlines, but would like to try to come if I can. No certainty, but I wanted to register my interest, at least. Best--Dellaroux (talk) 00:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ooops, I see the issue: The "Le" that I took to be a typo is a different name entirely. OK, I know the old PPasteur, will you have a yellow umberella (or some other, less partisan color?) by which to be recognized?

I learned the word "Disambiguation" here; looks like that's what is called for!

Best--Dellaroux (talk) 00:51, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
