Synergy Group is a South American conglomerate owned by Bolivian-born Germán Efromovich, an entrepreneur holding dual citizenship of Colombia and Brazil. The group its headquartered in Rio de Janeiro.
The group operates several airlines in South America and one in Africa, and is active in the exploration of oil and natural gas throughout the region. Furthermore, it operates hydroelectric powerplants and participates in the construction of telecommunications infrastrucuture.
Synergy Aerospace, a sub-division of Synergy Group, is headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia. With CEO Juan Emilio Posada, it is a company with holdings in eight airlines in four countries. These are Avianca, SAM and Tampa Cargo in Colombia, VarigLog and OceanAir in Brazil, VIP and Aerogal in Ecuador, and Capital Airlines in Nigeria.
Synergy Group is currently in talks to integrate the airline and companies of Grupo Taca with Avianca under a holding company of the Synergy Group to be named "Avianca-TACA". The Synergy Group will own 66.66% of the newly created subsidiary company. Kingsland Holdings, Ltd., will own the other 33.33% of Avianca-TACA.
It remains unclear as of yet, if the Synergy Group will be retaining the minority shareholdings Grupo TACA has in Islena Airlines and Volaris (Airlines). Presently Grupo TACA owns only 20% of Islena Airlines.
Volaris, the only codeshare partner of Southwest Airlines in the United States, is 25% owned by Grupo TACA, until the acquisition or divestiture by the Synergy Group is completed.
