Trivia
- One of the co-writers of the script, M. Jay Roach, would go on to direct all three Austin Powers films and both Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers.
- Tommy Lee Jones was paid $8 million to play Ryan Gaerity. Jeff Bridges was paid $4 million to play Jimmy Dove. Jones filmed his part in just a few weeks.
- Stephen Hopkins shot this film while editing his previous film Judgment Night, something he told Moving Pictures he would never do again.
- The final explosion was the largest on film by amount of explosives used (the opening napalm scene from Apocalypse Now is the largest by area covered). No-one was injured filming the scene for Blown Away, but the explosion caused $1 million in damages.
- Ricky Ross, former lead singer of Deacon Blue, recorded a love song for the film that was not used. When he performed it live on Jonathan Ross' radio show years later, he said he was glad it wasn't used.
