Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf or Happy Sheep and Grey Wolf (Chinese: 喜羊羊与灰太狼; pinyin: Xǐ Yáng Yáng yǔ Huī Tài Láng) is a Chinese animated television series which was created by Huang Weiming, Lin Yuting and Luo Yinggeng, and produced by Creative Power Entertaining. The show is about a group of goats living on the Green Grassland (青青草原) and the story revolving around a clumsy wolf who wants to hunt them. It is aired on over 40 local TV stations including Hong Kong's TVB, BTV Animation Channel and CCTV. The show was also aired in Taiwan, and Singapore. Unfortunately, the show never had an international release outside of Asia. However, some of the Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf DVD's have English subtitles.

History

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf had 530 episodes when it premiered. After it became moderately successful, Creative Power Entertaining created the next 480 episodes, including 60 exclusive Olympics episodes.

In January 2009, the first Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf movie - The Super Snail Adventure (喜羊羊与灰太狼之牛气冲天) was launched in China. It has broken the domestic box office record for a Chinese animated film, collecting 30 million Yuan (US $4.39 million) during its opening weekend. On the first day of release alone, the movie made 8 million Yuan. According Beijing News, the weekend's revenue was well ahead of the previous record holder for domestic animation, Storm Rider Clash of the Evils — the adaptation of the Storm Riders comic brought in 25 million Yuan in two weeks when it was released the previous summer.

Describing the Pleasant Goat movie as a "dark horse," Zhao Jun, general manager of China Film South Cinema Circuit Co. Ltd., predicted the film would make at least 60 million Yuan in total box office revenue. A manager of the Beijing-based Stellar International Cineplex said the movie theatre's biggest hall, which had been scheduled to screen Red Cliff II, was reassigned to show Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: The Super Snail Adventure in order to meet popular demand.

China's Xinhua news agency quoted unspecified "insiders" as crediting the cartoon's success to the large pool of fans who have tuned in to the Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf television cartoon series over the past three years. Based on the 500-episode television series, The Super Snail Adventure stars the same characters but in a very different scenario. The movie's storyline tells how several goats and their old nemesis, Big Big Wolf, join forces to defeat their common archenemy — bacteria.

A second movie, Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf — The Tiger Prowess (喜羊羊与灰太狼之虎虎生威) was released in January 2010 [Video page (has English subtitles) http://hd.tudou.com/program/24251/]. This move contains many original songs. Yang Peiyi（杨沛宜）, who performed <Ode to the Motherland> at Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony, was invited to sing <Left hands and Right hands>(左手右手).

The third movie, Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf - Moon Castle: The Space Adventure （喜羊羊与灰太狼之兔年顶瓜瓜） was launched in 2011.

Description

In the year of the goat (a kind of fantastic calendar in the episodes) 3131, the goats live in the Green-Green Grasslands happily, while Grey Wolf and his wife Red Wolf move in and try to hunt them. But goats in this time are intelligent and powered with technology. Every time Grey Wolf appears at the Goat Village, he thinks up a sneaky plan to catch the goats. Among the goat students, a smart young boy goat named "Pleasant" always finds a way to ruin "Grey Wolf's" plans and save the goats. With the effort of "Pleasant" and his friends, Grey Wolf never captures any goats. In the end of each episode, "Grey Wolf" always promises to come back.

The conflict between Grey Wolf and "Pleasant" never ends. Although Grey Wolf fails all the time, he never gives up. Although he is mean to the goats, he is a nice and timid husband to Red Wolf. Red Wolf is somewhat impatient and enjoys making her husband do all the work. She never tries to catch the goats herself, but always yells at her husband. She likes fashion and behaves like a modern female adult (though sometime her thoughts are a bit childish). She knows nothing but lamb and she loves to hit "Grey Wolf" with her frying pan. "Pleasant" and his friends are portrayed as playful primary school kids, each of whom has his/her own unique feature. "Beauty" is a pretty girl goat who is always worrying about her looks and esteem. "Fit" is a boy goat who likes to work out; he is in love with "Beauty". "Lazy" is a cute boy goat who likes to relax. There are many other child goats, as well as their teacher - an old goat referred to as the "Village Elder", who is a scientist and develops machines to protect their school. He is slower than a snail and uses a walking stick.

• Pleasant Goat (喜羊羊 Xǐ Yáng Yáng)

A male goat Pleasant Goat is the leader of the young goats in Green-Green Grassland, who always wears a blue bell and a blue-white shoes. He is Slow Goat's assistant and students. He is the fastest goat in the Green-Green Grassland, but he is impatient sometimes, so he often make a joke. Pleasant Goat is optimistic, active, brave, witty and clever. Because he always discerns Grey Wolf 's intrigue, saves the other goats' life, so he is named tribal hero. Also, he is the most handsome goat in the Green-Green Grassland.

• Slow Goat (慢羊羊 Màn Yáng Yáng)

The village chief of the goats. He is a wise goat, who is the teacher to the younger goats. He is also a brilliant inventor with his own underground laboratory, and when inventing he sometimes adopts a mad scientist persona. One episode in the show has Grey Wolf trying to steal the'Smart Grass' growing from his head whenever he thinks too hard. He is slower than a snail, and sometimes uses one as transport.

• Lazy Goat (懒羊羊 Lǎn Yáng Yáng)

A small, gluttonous goat wearing a yellow drool bib. He hates working and likes to sleep, but due to his lazy nature he is often the first caught by Grey Wolf. He also has a habit of falling asleep whenever Grey Wolf kidnaps the goats. He has been revealed to hold a varying number of hidden talents throughout the show, such as diving.

• Pretty Goat (美羊羊 Měi Yáng Yáng)

A female goat. Pretty Goat is a beautiful goat in Green-Green Grassland, who always wears pink bows on her horns and pink shoes. She is one of Slow Goat's students. She likes to cook, apply make up, and dress up. Her cooking, make up and dress up skills are great in Green-Green Grassland. Pretty Goat is considerate, kind-hearted and gentle, but she likes to cry sometimes. In some episodes Pretty tricks Red Wolf into sparing her for make-up techniques.

• Fit Goat (沸羊羊 Fèi Yáng Yáng)

A goat with tan skin, Fit Goat was the strongest goat on the Green-Green Grasslands until it was revealed that Kind goat possessed mountain goat genes. He is feisty and arrogant, with a tendency to underestimate others, but has a bad phobia to cockroaches. He has a crush on Pretty Goat. Interestingly, he is still unable to defeat Grey Wolf in a fist fight except for rare incidences. He loves boxing and he always like to bully Sleepy Goat.

• Warm Goat (暖羊羊 Nuǎn Yáng Yáng)

She is a docile and kind female goat who is class president to Pleasant Goat's class in school. She is revealed in the Olympics special to possess mountain goat genes, effectively making her the strongest goat in Goat Village above Fit Goat. She is the most sensible goat but is sometimes talkative. She is friends with Banana Wolf.

Wolves

• Grey Wolf (灰太狼 Huī Tài Láng)

The main antagonist, a grey wolf with a patched yellow and orange hat, as well as visible facial scar. He is often found planning over-the-top maneuvers reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote in attempts to capture the goats of Goat Village. He uses different sneaky ways to catch the goats, and sometimes dresses like a different animal or breaks the gate of the goat's home and goes in and catches them. He constantly tries to appease his wife, Red Wolf, but frequently ends up on the receiving end of domestic violence.

When defeated, his catchphrase is 'I'll come back for sure, annoying little goats! or I'll come back for sure, annoying Pleasant Goat/Happy Goat/Happy! or I'll come back for sure!' （可恶的小羊，我一定会回来的！ or 可恶的喜羊羊，我一定会回来的! or 我一定会回来的!）

• Red Wolf (红太狼 Hóng Tài Láng)

The narcissistic wife of Grey Wolf, who dresses in a red robe with black and white trims. She is over-demanding and abusive towards her husband, hitting him with her frying pan whenever his schemes fail. She is actually very smart and while her husband can think of outlandish inventions to catch sheep, her simple ideas are the ones that are actually successful.

• Little Grey (小灰灰 Xiǎo Huī Huī)

He is the son of Grey Wolf and Red Wolf. He is a cutie with two big eyes. He is approximately 2-6 years old in human years. He is a rather large crybaby, but is very innocent. He likes to go out hunting with his dad but gets lost all the time. He plays a large role in the first movie, The Super Snail Adventure, as well as in the second movie , "The Tiger Poweress

• Yellow Wolf (黄太狼 Huáng Tài Láng)

Grey Wolf's Grandfather.

• Black Wolf (黑太狼 Hēi Tài Láng)

• Banana Wolf (蕉太狼 Jiāo Tài Láng)

He is a large, mild-mannered wolf who is a vegetarian obsessed with bananas. He befriends Warm Goat, who likes to provide him with bananas. He is an relative of Red Wolf.

• Fragrant Wolf/ Little Red (香太狼 Xiāng Tài Láng)

She is a cousin of Grey Wolf and Red Wolf . She gets close to marrying Banana Wolf, but ends up marrying the minister at the wedding, who was already in love with her.

• Martial Wolf (武太狼 Wǔ Tài Láng)

The ancestor of the wolf family. He was archrival with the Soft Goat (软绵绵).

• Dopey Brother (潇洒哥 Xiāosǎ Ge)

An egg. Always says, “画个圈圈 诅咒你” ("Huà Ge Quānquān Zǔzhōu Nǐ," "I will draw a circle to have revenge on you.")
