Ebony Bones is a British singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. Writing and producing her debut album Bone Of My Bones, she was named one of the "40 Men And Women Who Make London" by Time Out for their 40th Anniversary edition as well as producing the soundtrack for Yves Saint Laurent's Manifesto campaign. Currently finishing work on her much anticipated sophomore album, in 2011 Ebony Bones supported Cee Lo Green on his European tour, and is currently rehearsing at The Théâtre du Châtelet as the lead role in Pop'pea for Monteverdi's original Opera L’incoronazione di Poppea about Emperor Nero's ambitious wife Poppaea Sabina co-starring The Libertines frontman Carl Barât in 2012, with Pete Howard from The Clash as Musical Coordinator.
Acting Career
Born Ebony Thomas attending London's Sylvia Young Theatre School alongside fellow classmate Amy Winehouse, it is known that Ebony began her career at the age of 12, when she was spotted by BAFTA award winning actor and Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Mark Rylance, for his production of Macbeth also starring actress Jane Horrocks. Nominated for The British Soap Awards in 2004 and 2005 for playing the role of Yasmin Green on the FIVE (UK) TV drama Family Affairs, she was one of the programme's youngest, longest-serving and most popular cast members.
Music Career
Known for her onstage antics and theatrical costumes, she opened for Cee Lo Green 2011 Tour across the UK and Europe. Beginning as a self-taught musician performing under the stage name 'Ebony Bones!'given to her by her original live drummer Rat Scabies of The Damned, she anonymously uploaded music onto a blank myspace page. Writing and producing her own material, "We Know All About U" depicting an Orwellian society, made its radio debut as "The Hottest Record In The World Today" as well as "Single Of The Week" on BBC Radio 1 by Dj Zane Lowe, also receiving daytime play from Jo Whiley, becoming Radio 1's most played single by an unsigned artist. Her debut album Bone Of My Bones was released in 2009 featuring W.A.R.R.I.O.R" and "Guess We'll Always Have NY" later used for campaigns by Yves Saint Laurent, EA Sports FIFA 2011 soundtrack, and a controversial Citroën car commercial featuring the late John Lennon, which was later banned in parts of Europe.
Photographed for The New York Times by legendary photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino and appearing in publications such as Rolling Stone, Vogue, NME, Q, The Guardian, The Observer, i-D, and Entertainment Weekly, she has also graced the covers of French lifestyle magazine Télérama three times, Tsugi, Japan's Eyescream, as well as German music magazine De:Bug.
In 2010 she was requested to perform live at The Shanghai World Trade Show Expo 2010, Central Park SummerStage in New York, and The Grand Palais in Paris for SFR live concerts. In the summer of 2011 Ebony Bones also debuted new material from her upcoming sophomore album at The Cannes Film Festival and T-Mobile International Film Festival.
Théâtre du Châtelet - Pop'pea
In 2012 Ebony Bones will return to the stage to star as Poppaea Sabina, wife of Nero in psycho-Opera Pop'pea taken from Monteverdi's original Opera L’incoronazione di Poppea co-starring The Libertines frontman Carl Barât at the legendary Théâtre du Châtelet with Pete Howard from The Clash as Musical Coordinator. Directed and produced from the same team who brought Monkey: Journey to the West with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett
