Contract with Paramount

Should mention should be made that in order to be cast in Primal Fear, Norton had to agree to do a certain number (I think 2) of further films as a part of a highly controversial practice many studios engage in. He turned down several popcorn type films until Paramount grew tired of him never agreeing to do one and finally forced him with the threat of a lawsuit to appear in The Italian Job remake. This is pretty well known, so should be fairly easy to find some online sourcing for it. RoyBatty42 20:06, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

fluent in...?

Please, other than English, how do we know what languages Edward Norton is fluent in. In the past, I've seen this wikipedia page say he's fluent in Spanish, and now, RUSSIAN? I say, find some citation! For one, I know that he speaks horrible Mandarin(much as I may love the man) and anyone who speaks Asian languages like Mandarin, Korean, Japanese etc would know the importance of intonation on each word. Clearly, Edward (as shown in The Painted Veil) has lousy intonation for Mandarin; it's safe to assume he can't intonate his words well for Japanese either--UNTIL we find some citation or sources. Until then, I've removed the line that claims he's fluent in Japanese, or Russian or whatever. Again, I reiterate the fact that he is one of my favourite actors.Pristine 08:54, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a webpage here: http://www.edward-norton.org/video/japanclip.html that has him speaking some Japanese. He's certainly not fluent, but is quite a bit better than a beginning student. Megaversal 17:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Korean and Japanese are comepletely different from other Asian languages such as Mandarin and fairly different from each other as well. Tones do not play a role neither in Korean (I study it) nor in Japanese (as far as I know). His accent may be bad, but it has nothing to do with tones. If that is the main point of your argument, then it is moot.124.0.19.150 (talk) 02:49, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fluent in Japanese, and Norton is NOT. He speaks some, as evidenced by this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUR0JftX4CU, but he says himself (in japanese) that he has forgotten all of his Japanese. His pronounciation is also mediocre at best. I think the article should be changed to say he can speak SOME Japanese, or even used to speak it, but he can by no means speak it now. This is also shown by his appearance on Japanese TV talk shows, where he uses a translator like everyone else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.62.196 (talk) 21:31, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Critically acclaimed

Is "critically acclaimed" a weasel term? Moreover, what exactly does it mean? Paul Haymon 02:21, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Height

I've just removed his height, as there are conflicting numbers, and the reference given for the listed height didn't even agree with the data it was citing. Note that IMDB lists his height as 5' 10.75", while the edwardnorton.net fansite lists his height as 6' 1". -FeralDruid 16:16, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing about his well-know "Control issues?"

You know, the fact that he isnists on rewriting every film he appears in? This is well-documented, isn't it notable? 206.218.218.49 (talk) 20:17, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you got a source? скоморохъ 17:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This article from the Independent, a UK National paper, might be a good place to quote for this: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/film-and-tv/features/edward-norton-the-incredible-sulk-846930.html . I agree, this issue is worth putting in the article as he is becoming well known for it and it's affected two of his biggest films (american history x and incredible hulk). 79.69.40.98 (talk) 14:30, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i keep adding avnegers to his future film credits and it keeps getting deleted

avengers are for sure (more may be announced later) Iron Man Hulk thor and cpatain america lkast time i checked the current hulk is edward norton no one tampered with it when i did it to robert downey jr

The film has been announced, but which characters appearing in the movie are not set since there isn't even a script, and no on has been cast. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:33, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Provide a reference for that in Robert Downey Jr's article. But Norton has not been cast in anything; he hasn't even been signed on for a Hulk sequel while Tim Roth is signed for one. The lineup for the Avengers film has not even been decided. So it's a fallacy to claim that the Hulk is confirmed to appear in the Avengers movie, or that Norton will play the character, since neither have been determined. Maasai marathon in New York

Is there anyone who can write up a small paragraph on the marathon that Norton and 30 others is planning to run for the Maasai (page here) in New York? It has been covered by various news sources, such as CNN, LA Times, New York Inc, PR Inside, etc. Erzsébet Báthory(talk|contr.) 23:15, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So I wrote up the Maasai/Marathon thing. Norton did okay for himself. Seems like a cool dude. :) Malke 2010 (talk) 15:28, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Page

Please use the talk page before making changes, especially if the item you are changing is a recent contribution. It takes a lot of work to edit Wikipedia, compose paragraphs, check references, etc., so please have consideration for the work of others and use this page first, especially if you have the urge to simply revert. Thank you :) Malke 2010 (talk) 19:21, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, but I did not "simply revert". I moved the content to the appropriate main body article section. The lead section of an article should not contain content that is not already included in the article itself. Per WP:LEAD: The lead serves both as an introduction to the article and as a summary of the important aspects of the subject of the article. I also corrected citation format style rather than the blank links with no appropriate identification, title, date, publication or author. Yeah, you're right, it does take a lot of work. It takes even more work to correct errors in citation addition, verify citations, some of which did not, in any way, support what you said it did and for which I had to find proper sourcing. Let me remind you this is designated a good article and thus, the style, citations and content that you added does not pass good article muster. The rest of the content you added to the lead isn't at all supported by a stark link to the Writer's Guild, which, when his name is searched, states simply "Sorry, this member has chosen not to publish any details." This content would not go in the lead unless it is already contained in the article. I note also that you were told here that the content should go in the personal life section, which is not where you put it. When you make an addition to an article and click save, it is no longer your addition. At the bottom, below the edit window, in tiny letters, it says "If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." I did not simply revert your addition, I moved it and cleaned it up. Please be so good as to return to the personal life section the cleaned up content regarding the marathon and remove the unverified content you added to the lead. Otherwise, in this case, I will simply revert it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 21:14, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, don't get snarky. It's just wikipedia. . .relax. If the citations need clean up, mention that in the talk page and tell the user to get on it on that user's talk page. People learn from their mistakes. If an editor has to go back and clean up their own contribution they won't make that mistake again. Also, I did move the marathon thing to the personal section. I had not finished editing when you came along and reverted/moved. When I was putting in my edit, I noticed the lead could use some work, so I went looking for citations. So you can imagine, when I came back I wondered what had happened. I always use the talk page, I think it keeps things cool. Nice to meet you. :) Malke 2010 (talk) 21:48, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the Maasai Marathon website does support the amount of money raised. Go here [1]..Malke 2010 (talk) 22:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead/Lede

I added info to the lead re: Norton's writing and also cleaned up the grammar/sentence structure so it would read more smoothly. :) Malke 2010 (talk) 20:11, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name change?

Maybe I missed something, but why was he Edward Norton Jr. before and now simply Edward Norton now?124.0.19.150 (talk) 02:49, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He's never been Edward Norton, Jr. His name is Edward Harrison Norton. His father's name is Edward M. Norton. Possibly his father is a junior.Malke2010 02:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Deleted because it is a question and not relevant.)

Standoff with Paramount

IIRC, Norton had to agree to 2 more movies with Paramount when he was cast in Primal Fear. He did one and then did not like any of the projects they offered. They lost their patience and pretty much told him to to do The Italian Job or get sued. Seems like something that should be in here. 76.95.33.253 (talk) 10:10, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. And as source we just list your IP address, right? Given some random guy posts something he has probably read on some blog who has heard something on twitter frome somebody who things this might be true, cause it just makes sense, we really need to put it on wikipedia. For sure. --92.224.48.241 (talk) 22:39, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
