Musou Orochi 2(無双OROCHI 2), is a 2011/12 hack and slash video game developed by Koei (now Tecmo Koei) and Omega Force for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is the fourth installment of the Musou Orochi series, being a crossover of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series, and serves as a sequel to Warriors Orochi 2. This title has only been made for release in Japan on December 22, 2011. It is not yet known whether this will be released overseas, although it is hinted that it will be through its release on the Xbox 360.'

Characters

It has been confirmed that over 120 characters will be included in this title, where most characters from the previous titles will return with their updated character models from Samurai Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 7. The new characters from Dynasty warrior 7: XL expansion; Wang Yi, Guo Jia and Pang De will appear in this game. This also applies to Samurai Warriors: Z where Aya Gozen, Masanori Fukushima and Gracia Hosokawa will also be present in this game. The DW7 Weapon system appears to have returned, although each character will still have their own moveset. It has now been confirmed that cut characters (Zuo Ci, Musashi Miyamoto, Kojiro Sasaki, Goemon Ishikawa) will return in this title.

Da Ji and Kiyomori Taira have been confirmed to return again, as well as the three mystics Taigong Wang, Nu Wa and Fu Xi. Sun Wukong and Himiko have recently been confirmed to return also. It appears that most of the Musou Orochi exclusive characters will definitely return in this title. Characters from other Koei franchses including Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, Jeanne d’Arc from Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War and Achilles from Warriors: Legends of Troy will also appear. [1]

Based on the games story, the only characters initially avaliable are Ma Chao, Hanbei Takenaka and Sima Zhao.

Story/Plot

The story begins years after the events of Warriors Orochi 2, with a decisive battle against a multi-headed serpent known as Youja. This giant phantom serpent as well as the re-appearance of Kiyomori has once again, thrust their peaceful world back into chaos. Many warriors are killed, and the serpent appears to be unbeatable. However, the Moon Princess Kaguya appears and uses the power of time travel to send back the last remaining generals - Takenaka Hanbei, Sima Zhao and Ma Chao to the past to save their fallen comrades.

The themes of the story include friendship, romance, loyalty and betrayal. There is also a 'Character Bond' system which can be utilized by interacting with characters and holding banquets. This can be done through the new 'Restaurant' option. The story also changes depending on the bonds between characters. The 'Weapon Shop' option also returns in this title.

Gameplay

The following is a list of old and new features included in this title:

  • 3 character tag team from previous games returns.
  • 2 player split screen co op. (Separate character palette unknown)
  • New co-operation attack 'True Combination Skill'.
  • New action 'Swtich Combo' allowing continuous attacking.
  • Attack categories 'Speed', 'Power' and 'Technic' return.
  • New attack category 'Wonder' focusing on countering and critical attacks. (uses musou bar)
  • New action 'Dash Chain' allowing smooth transitions from dash to normal/charge attacks.
  • New action 'Break Guard' allowing countering enemy attacks and blowing them away. (press square before enemy attack hits)
