The Copa Mundial (Spanish for World Cup) football boot was released in 1979, but designed for the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Going through very slight changes since then, the Copa is made of a 100% kangaroo leather upper for maximum ball control and comfort.[1] The soft leather forms to the foot and is easy to break in, while additional leather supports from the heel provide increased durability and stability.[2]. It holds the accolade of being the best-selling football boot of all time.[3]
Variations to the boot include the Adidas World Cup, which has screw-in studs for soft ground.
In 2007, Adidas released a 25th anniversary package for the Copa. This limited-edition package included a special box along with wooden shoe trees, leather polish, a key chain, a postcard with Die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft from 1982 and a cloth. The boot was also slightly varied with the "Copa Mundial" on the side in gold rather than silver letters and tweaks to the tongue and heel collar echoing the 1982 original. With the release of the 25th anniversary package, Copa Mundial jackets, shirts and other apparel were also released.
