The Good article nomination for Jason Varitek has failed, for the following reason:

The lead section needs to summarise the article's content - it's too brief at the moment. Section headings take sentence capitalisation (see WP:MOS). 'Trivia' sections are bad: if a fact is trivial, suck it, omit it, but if it's significant, it shouldn't be isolated in a trivia section. And a lengthy list of awards is not really encyclopaedic - you should mention the most notable in the text but no need to list them all. Worldtraveller 17:43, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mariners

He was indeed in the M's farm system, but according to his stats on MLB.com, he never played a game in the majors as a Mariner.

According to three other sites ([1], [2], and [3]), Varitek has never played with Seattle. Nick81aku 00:57, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname

I'm not sure if 'Quadzilla' can really be considered a nickname for Varitek; while it was made up during a prominent episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, it doesn't seem to have caught on. A Google search of 'quadzilla varitek' only has about 100 hits, with most being commentary about or references to the Queer Eye episode. Unless someone else objects, I think it should probably be deleted, or maybe moved to a later part of the article as a passing reference, not in the opening section. Team Captains

Derek Lowe was not named captain of the LA Dodgers -- that was a prank by his teammates. http://www.uniwatchblog.com/?cat=75 72.192.22.209 05:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cape League

Cape Cod League is not Professional Ball... it is NCAA sanctioned Summer League and admission to all games is free with a donation asked. That info should be moved to the HS and College section 75.67.45.110 04:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Tek vs. V-Tek

I don't think "V-Tek" is a popular or well-known nickname of Jason Varitek, surely not as popular and well-known as "'Tek."

Doing a Google search of "'tek varitek" will produce 52,000+ results, compared to the 2,000+ results for "v-tek varitek.

Lead Section

'Large and in Charge'? Seriously? 136.2.1.102 (talk) 19:02, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that probably shouldn't be there. Thanks for catching that. Deleted. --Mosmof (talk) 19:29, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

True But

According to Red Sox fans, Varitek is valued as a catcher for his ability to work with pitchers, using scouting reports and video footage to plan each game. He also won his first Gold Glove Award, his first Silver Slugger, and his second All-Star selection in 2005.

As a Red Sox fan, this is definitely true. But shouldn't this be sourced? It's basically WP:ORVyselink (talk) 18:22, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Not to mentioned that According to Red Sox fans, Varitek is valued... is a blatant case of weasel words. --Mosmof (talk) 20:34, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"C"

Why no mention about that ridiculous "C" on his uniform. Konerko doesn't, Jeter doesn't. Why does Varidrek wear that hockey thing?
