Career

Danny O 'Donoghue is an Irish, musician, songwriter, singer and producer who has also been involved in several collaborations and remixes. Danny is well known as the lead singer of Irish band The Script. Danny was born in Dublin in 1981.

As a music producer Danny has worked with The Neptunes, TLC, Justin Timberlake, Rodney Jerkins,Boys II Men, Rip Rock, Alex G and Teddy Reily of Blackstreet. Danny started his song writing and production career in America, where he scored a publishing deal with Zomba Music part of Zomba Group Of Companies after they heard a remix of a song written by Justin Timberlake called ‘Gone’. Zomba immediately offered Danny and his production team Madnotes (along with Mark Sheehan).[1] a major publishing deal.

Danny spent almost a decade in the states partaking in production, programming, lyrics and session work both as a singer and as a musician before making the decision to form The Script with Mark Sheehan (guitarist) and Glen Power (drummer).[2]

The Script released their first album in 2008 and shot straight to the top of the charts in both the UK and Ireland; the first Irish band to do so since U2. Following the initial success of the album, it re-charted at number one again in January 2009. To date the album is certified four times platinum in the UK and has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

The Script’s third single “Break Even” sold 2.5 million copies in the US and proved a runaway success. The accolades attached to the release shadowed the success of “The man who can’t be moved” “Live like we’re Dying” and “For the First Time”, all three selling well over a million records each. ‘Break Even’ saw the band receive invitations to travel to the States to appear on David Letterman,Jay Leno , Ellen and The Today Show. The single subsequently peaked at number one on the Hot AC Chart and number twelve on the Billboard Chart.

During 2009 Paul McCartney.[3]a personally requested The Script to open up for him as he toured America, starting at the historic Shay Stadium. The following month the band supported U2 on their 360 Tour and Take That on their main arena tour.

In September 2010, the release of the band’s second album Science and Faith surpassed all expectations, entering the charts at number one in both the UK and Ireland. The album also entered at number two in Australia and debuted at number three in America’s Billboard 200.

To date, The Script have sold over 5 million singles and 750,000 albums in USA alone.

In 2011 The Script embarked on their first World Arena tour playing to over two million people on a schedule that took them across the UK, Ireland, Europe, South Africa , Asia and Australia. The tour finished with 32 dates in America.

In July 2011, tickets were released for the band's ‘Homecoming’ show- their first stadium show to an audience of over 50,000- at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The show proved a milestone, selling out in a day. Just four years earlier the band had played to only 26 people less than a mile from the venue.

The Script are currently working on their third album which is due to be released later this year. They have won numerous awards including, “Best New Band” at the World Music Awards, “Best Album” and “Best Live Performance” at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards and “Song of the year” for “Breakeven” at the BMI Songwriters awards. “Breakeven” and “Live like we’re dying” were also nominated for a Choice Music Prize[4][5][6] On December 8th 2011 it was revealed that he would be a coach on The Voice UK alongside Jessie J, will.i.am and Tom Jones[7]
