Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is the upcoming second studio album by Trinidadian-American hip hop artist Nicki Minaj, set to be released through Universal Republic Records (Universal Music Group), Young Money Entertainment, and Cash Money Records from April 3, 2012.[1][2]

Two promotional singles[3] from the album have been released so far; "Roman in Moscow", was released to iTunes on December 2, 2011, and has received mixed reviews, while "Stupid Hoe" was released on December 20, 2011.[4] The album's lead single, "Starships," premiered during On Air with Ryan Seacrest on February 14, 2012 and was released to iTunes the same day.

Background and development

The album puts focus on the return of Roman Zolanski, one of Minaj's alter egos that was first featured on her 2010 debut album, Pink Friday. Much of the album's details thus far have been announced through the social networking website Twitter. It was originally set for release on February 14, 2012, though the revised release date was announced by Minaj in January 2012. Cash Money co-CEO, Brian "Birdman" Williams announced to Billboard that Minaj was aiming for a first quarter release in 2012.[5] In November 2011, Minaj announced on Twitter that the album would be released on February 14, 2012, and later in January 2012 she announced through Twitter that the album had been pushed back to April 3, 2012.

Singles

The album's official lead single is "Starships". Ryan Seacrest premiered the single on February 14, 2012 on his radio show. It was available for purchase on iTunes 2 hours before the premiere.[6] In a interview with Rap-Up.com, Minaj said about her first single "Starships", "is one of my absolute, absolute favorite records on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. It just sounds like a Ryan Seacrest-type of record. And I’m so excited for you to give this song your blessing, Ryan, because I know people are gonna love it. It feels right. It just feels good. It makes people feel happy and that’s all I want. I want to start the year off with making people feel good. The [Grammy] performance was the performance, that was my clear craziness, and now it’s time to make people dance and have fun, and that’s all I want to do."[7]

Other notable songs

The album's first promotional single, "Roman in Moscow", was written by Nicki Minaj, and produced by StreetRunner, and Sarom. It was released to iTunes on December 2, 2011.[8] The song debuted at number sixty-four on the Billboard Hot 100. Minaj filmed the music video for "Roman in Moscow" on December 18, 2011.[9] The second promotional single is "Stupid Hoe", an electro hop, and happycore[10] song, released to iTunes on December 20, 2011 and produced by Diamond Kuts, credited as T. Dunham. It debuted at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100. Minaj filmed the video for "Stupid Hoe" on December 19 and December 20, 2011. The music video was released on January 20, 2012 on VEVO. Following the release of the video, the song jumped to number 59 on the Hot 100.[6] "Turn Me On", a single from David Guetta's album "Nothing but the Beat", will also appear on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. It reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Va Va Voom" was initially planned to be the lead single, however, the label scrapped its release at the last minute and decided to go with "Starships" as the lead single instead. Minaj filmed the music video for "Va Va Voom" on December 21, 2011.[11] Minaj performed a song titled "Roman Holiday" live at the 54th annual Grammy Awards Ceremony on February 12, 2012. Thus far, the performance has received a multitude of mixed reviews.
