Betraying the Martyrs is a French Christian deathcore/metalcore band from in Paris, France

History

Betraying the Martyrs was founded in 2008 and currently consists of Aaron Matts (lead vocals), Baptiste Vigier (lead guitar), Lucas d'Angelo (rhythm guitar), Victor Guillet (clean vocals/ keyboard), Valentin Hauser (bass guitar) and Antoine Salin (drums).

The band's former members are Eddie Czaicki (vocals) and Fabien Clévy (guitar).

Before joining Betraying the Martyrs, Czaicki played in the French Metalcore band Darkness Dynamite, Guillet was the lead vocalist and keyboardist in the Post-hardcore band The Beverly Secret, Vigier and d'Angelo were in the Metalcore band Black Curtains, and Hauser was in the Math Metal band Beyond The Dust.

On November 18, 2009, Betraying the Martyrs released their debut EP “The Hurt The Divine The Light” which was self-produced with the bands own money and mixed by Stephane Buriez. The EP sold more than 2,000 units in France alone.[1] Their first European tour, "The Survivors Tour," was held in 2010, when they supported Whitechapel, Dark Funeral, Darkness Dynamite, A Skylit Drive, Adept, Despised Icon, Dance Gavin Dance, While She Sleeps and Shadows Chasing Ghosts. The band met current vocalist Aaron Matt during this tour, and he replaced Czaicki shortly thereafter, as Czaicki's art career requires him to travel worldwide.

In 2011, the band started working on their first album. They quickly signed with Sumerian Records in North America [2] and Listenable Records worldwide.[1] On September 23, 2011 Betraying the Martyrs released “Breathe In Life” through both labels.

The album was mixed by Charles J Wall, and the artwork was created by the band's own bass player, Valentin Hauser. The themes on the album are about life, faith, and interpersonal relationships.

Between April and May 2011, the group toured a second time through Europe (“Breathe In Life Tour”) to promote their album. The tour included trips to Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Betraying the Martyrs was supported by Russian deathcore band My Autumn and Despite My Deepest Fear for the ("Breathe In Life Tour"). In fall 2011, they toured the US with Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, Carnifex and Structures. The recently toured in Europe on the famous "Bonechrusher Tour", with Carnifex, Within The Ruins, Molotov Solution, Beneath The Massacre.

Breathe in Life was reviewed by Sputnikmusic[3] and by online music portals throughout Europe.[4][5][6][7]. The album received positive acclaim, being compared to such bands as Born of Osiris and Emmure.

Musical Style

The band is most commonly considered deathcore or metalcore using heavy breakdowns similar to Whitechapel or Carnifex. They make use of symphonic and electronic sounds and commonly utilize classical orchestral melodies lending them a similar sound to Septic Flesh or Fleshgod Apocalypse. The band also uses much tempo modification and rhythm change to give their music a progressive metal sound similar to Born of Osiris.
