Quote

This project does not exist to help editors grow a thicker skin. Our mission is to build an encyclopedia, not establish limits for low-level abuse that we think our volunteer editors should be willing to suffer. If we drive away more people than we attract, then it's a genuine loss to the project and we should fix it rather than label those who would prefer to work in a civil environment as "thin skinned." -- User:Cool Hand Luke [2]

"First they came…"

is a famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. The text of the quotation is usually presented roughly as follows:

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Many an edit war (or talk discssion) may seem like a fight over nothing to the casual observer, but considering that according to its staff, the popular, multilingual Web site Wikipedia gets about 7 billion views per month, stakes can be high. An edit yields what millions of people read on the site on any particular topic.
A Wikipedia conflict of interest (COI) is an incompatibility between the aim of Wikipedia, which is to produce a neutral, reliably sourced encyclopedia, and the aims of an individual editor. COI editing involves contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote your own interests or those of other individuals, companies, or groups. Where advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest (from WP:COI)

lol

you are truly one of the most wonderful people I have ever met online. Please don't ever lose touch with me: Anonomous User

TY. Back at you. Whatever is going on will abate with time. I surmise you have run across abrasiveness and mis-understanding. If you go, they win! If you stay, your fellow editors win; one of their champions has decided to stay "on the pitch". What I said in my edit summary is very true...get some rest, have a hardy meal, do something fun w/ a friend and life goes on. You got mixed up in a dog fight and got bit and scratched. What did you expect? Life lesson #32...Never extend your hand to a pit bull. He may bite it off. ```Buster Seven Talk

Peaceful reminder to myself

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.

"I think by now all good editors realize that they're just waiting their turn"

User:Wnt posted the following text and barnstar to Will Beback's talk page on February 27, 2012, and it perfectly reflects my thoughts:

I think by now all good editors realize that they're just waiting their turn

Reading over the decision, I still don't see the basis for blocking you for a day, let alone longer. I'm afraid this is not Officially Recognized, but I'll award it anyway:

The Indefinite Barnstar
Honoring those who have been indefinitely blocked on Wikipedia for productive, reasonable and well intentioned efforts conducted in accordance with Wikipedia policies and guidelines.

Some falafel for you!

I once saw a poster in Jerusalem featuring this fried chickpea delicacy. It said, "Falafel. The one thing we agree on."

In that spirit, thanks for saying hi! Erasmus Sydney (talk) 15:15, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Buster

That means more than you can know. Thanks so much!!! My first banner.

By the way I am laughing so hard at your clever animation of the men doing signals. Mugginsx (talk) 12:52, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I borrowed the first one. Not sure where. The rest are Clones. Nice to meet you. And thanks again for the bravery of broaching the subject. It needs to be said ...repeatedly. WE (Wikipedia Editors) spend so much time arguing and bickering and fault-finding and name calling and swearing and criticizing that we get in the habit of confronting (rather than collaborating) which leads to chaos. On the flip side, accolades, praising, positive comments, etc. lubricate the interaction between editors leading to collaboration and consensus and success at our encyclopedic endeavors. ```Buster Seven Talk 13:42, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And thank you for so eloquently backing me up and adding your wise words. I have also always liked your wise quote above. Although I have been known for losing my temper at times, I still think we think alike. Mugginsx (talk) 14:52, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yea. Temper. I need to control mine at times too. I think the trick is NOT hitting the Save key too fast: contemplate how better to say "Your an Idiot!". If you're like me I enjoy discovering editors that can sway a conversation with charm and just the right amount of lecture so as not to offend the easily offended. If interested check out User:Tvoz. She (I think) is a role model for concise expression.```Buster Seven Talk 15:09, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I will. Also good advice about the save button. Signing off now. I'm bushed Mugginsx (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Buster - can I steal you animated men?

Hi: I wondered if I can steal your animated men. As I said yesterday I just love them. Are they signing "I love you?" Mugginsx (talk) 18:27, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. They are very good workers...24/7. No need to steal them. They go where any where they will have a happy home. When I saw them (I forget what Talk Page it was) what I saw them doing was 'signing'..."I give you my Heart". Its kind of a far-away distant signal we do in my family. ```Buster Seven Talk 22:31, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Now that's what I call being welcoming!

Hi Buster7. You just welcomed a mainspace article ;-) --Shirt58 (talk) 02:33, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Big schluppy hugs

Big Wolfly Hug!
I would have put on Jimbo's page that you're a wonderful person, but the discussion was closed. But you are a wonderful person. Pesky (talk) 03:42, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Pesky. It means alot to me. My French bulldog, Jojo, returns the big slurpy kiss/hug. If your coming from Chets page you should know that you are one of the dozen. I visit your page often and was very glad to see your successful surgical results. May your improving health continue. BTW, I would love to comment and chat at your page but I am afraid MF would not enjoy my presence and may feel it necessary to express his displeasure. I feel some what responsible for his recent troubles since I was at the discussion table when he refused User:Deb's request which started the whole fiasco. As you may recall, I asked him, in peer support of Deb and in goodwill, to acquiesce and he flatly refused. Had that moment been different, all else would have changed. No need to remind him of my "civility policing" ways. I'm happy to read the goings on of your pals from the peanut gallery. You are in my prayers as I write this. ```Buster Seven Talk 05:17, 12 April 2012 (UTC) File:Cordialgreetings1x pix.gif ...I give you my Heart! ```Buster Seven Talk 05:20, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I'm sure MF won't bite you on my page (well, 90% sure, lol!) Health is improving slowly, butI'm full of painkillers to deal with the spasmy shoulder muscles, now! Pesky (talk) 17:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
