Why did you give me a warning on Gheorghe Calciu? Their edits made it a stub. Are you OK meaning sane? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.83.230.24 (talk) 19:40, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, perfectly sane. --NeilN talk to me 00:31, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NeilN my apologies for previous title. Also, my apologies for getting you involved and thank you very much for informing the correct party.

  • He's back, even after the final warning; and now he's got an account. Concerning the last one, I would like to point out the following: the account name is "Legionarii", that is to say members of the Iron Guard (a fascist and violently antisemitic movement). His edit summary for the edit that completed the IP's "truth back" innaities reads: "Futuvanguradacamaipunetimanapepaginaastatrimitsavatragaglontu". Let's break this down into grammatical words: "Futu-va-n gura[,] daca mai puneti mana pe pagina asta trimit sa va traga glontu[l]". My translation (feel free to ask anyone to verify it): "Fuck you in your mouths if, should you touch this page ever again I'll send someone in to shoot you with bullets." Vandal, fascist, inarticulate, and now a blackmailer - need I run this though AN/I? Dahn (talk) 21:19, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism slur

Hi, Thank you very much for tending to the unfounded accusations of vandalism on the talk page for my IP 174.126.207.178. Please, I'd appreciated if you took the vandalism slur by way of the TW template, which you just restored, off my talk page for my IP also. I object to it. Sure, it is fine to announce it as a shared IP. 134.129.66.182 (talk) 16:40, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you're referring to. "Mene pois"? --NeilN talk to me 17:20, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It means "go away".134.129.66.182 (talk) 17:22, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dravidian languages

Hi Neil, I have given a proven record stating that Telugu is daughter language of Tamil as like other Dravidian languages too. Then why it is not accepted. As you might know the grammar of Telugu is basically from Tamil. We must teach the reality to the people that "Telugu is a derived language from Tamil anonymously" --Karthiksabaasha (talk) 07:17, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. NeilN, Greetings, I was highly disappointed coz the truth of Dravidian language is still be hidden. You might know that Dravida is a term come from the language called Tamil. Anonymously all the South Indian languages are separated from Tamil too. Then why do not they just put it over on wiki or why do they hesitate to put on(If I am wrong, instead of scolding me as stupid or idiot, they could come down and clear the things). Even my friend is linguistic and according to him the term Egypt is from "EZHUPATHI" EZHU in Tamil is Raise and PATHI is mount or hill "Raised hills" and thus implies pyramids over there. For water it is called as neeru and this term converted in to neelu and slightly nillu to nile and Nile to implies Nile river and thus in Telugu they call water as Nilu. It is un acceptable they call South Indian languages formed without the root of Tamil. Please give a solution which should make either one of us to get corrected. --Karthiksabaasha (talk) 12:38, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question

How about this? Is this edit sum. considered as personal attack?--Penom (talk) 21:36, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No. Hasn't your mother ever said "Don't be silly" to you? Ease up on the sensitivity, please. --NeilN talk to me 21:40, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I guess there is a cultural differences or sth that I do not know about wiki norms. What is your impression if sb tell you "do not be silly?" What does it imply? Does not it imply that you are silly?--Penom (talk) 21:44, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That I am acting silly, yes. But "silly" is a very, very, very mild pejorative. It's used by parents and in polite conversation - "England is going to win the World Cup." "Don't be silly." --NeilN talk to me 21:53, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced warnings

Stranger still, uw-unsor4 used to redirect to Template:Uw-unsourced4, which redirects to a more appropriate general last warning (using the word "disrupt" but omitting "vandalism." I'm going to be bold and redirect unsor4 to the generic as well. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:42, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, good call. --NeilN talk to me 21:48, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For an editor of an encyclopedia, you sure are dumb.

The section header here is an example of something that might be construed as a personal attack. On the other hand, telling someone who's either trying to stir up shit or whose sensibilities are completely out of step with those of civilized society that they would benefit from therapy is not a personal attack. Do try to figure out the difference here, I'm sure you're more than capable of it. But hey, at least you didn't think it was "harassment". PrewDismay (talk) 02:18, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tamil Language

Hi NeilN, Greetings, What if I found something is totally wrong and unreliable in terms of language vocabularies, also I can give the exact meaning since I hold that language as my mother tongue. To be honest, Modern Tamil has borrowed some terms from Sanskrit, but not the ancient one. Still we can bring out/ speak out modern Tamil without including Sanskrit. The following page is completely wrong and I can explain the real Tamil terms Example: svasa in Indo arya and its Tamil term is Moochu or uyir moochu and not cuvacam. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Aryan_loanwords_in_Tamil#cite_ref-MULex_4-0) Not only this, for Each and every term I can give you the exact meaning in original Tamil. We accept the influence of Sanskrit in to Tamil. But Tamil has its own originality and its much older than Sanskrit too. Please help me out how can I save my language from its decrepit, even though it has all its qualities as an ancient language also gave birth of some languages too, but the derived people feel hesitate to accept it. I have all the proof, awaiting for you rely. Thank you.--Karthiksabaasha (talk) 03:16, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since you're related to this, you may wish to read up on WP:CONFLICT and WP:NEUTRAL. - Zhou Yu (talk) 03:21, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Since these Sanskrit to Tamil borrowings are properly referenced to a reliable source, you cannot simply rely on your own native ability to speak Tamil to change these forms. You will need reliable sources to reference. --Taivo (talk) 03:48, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As I've stated before (twice), your proof needs to be in the form of multiple high-quality reliable sources - published academic papers, articles in peer reviewed journals, scholarly liguistic books, etc. --NeilN talk to me 03:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh sure, I will get the reliable sources. Thank you.--Karthiksabaasha (talk) 04:09, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Neil,

I checked the guidelines for external links, and I am puzzled why you removed the link to the Playboy Wiki, which I added to this page. The Playboy Wiki was initiated under the authority of Playboy Enterprises, Inc. and is maintained by longtime fans who know their subject better than most Playboy staffers. The particular link that I made was far more relevant and informative than the link to http://www.playboy.com/tag/playmate/ which remains there. That link to a page at Playboy.com shows a random handful of Playmates, whereas the link I provided, http://www.playboywiki.com/CC+Playmates+of+the+Month takes a viewer to a page listing __all__ of the Playmates of the Month in chronological order, with links to detail pages of each of them.

I have some more general comments and concerns about the recent profusion of lists here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Playboy_lists but I would like to address you confidentially on that matter. [ remainder of message awaiting a confidential channel ]

Some disruptive edits by 110.174.4.210

Hi, NeilN.
I have a strong feeling that 110.174.4.210 (talk · contribs)(210) (you just beat me to reverting them at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Humanities/2012 March 28) and 110.174.63.234 (talk · contribs)(234) may be related. Both IPs are through TPG Telecom/"TPG internet" though at different locations in Sydney, Australia.

The latter(234) removed an automatic signing of their IP address from the same archives back on 10 April here and an entire (unanswered) question from Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Entertainment/2012 March 11, here. I think know why 234 did it now, as Bowei Huang 2 (talk · contribs) was blocked indefinitely on 4 May 2012 for sockpuppetry. Initially blocked for disruptive editing of re-directs '234' is marked as their likely sockpuppet They have been edit warring for a 10 month period over the re-direct at Republicanism and religion. I find it highly unfair that you focused on only my revision of this page when vandalism has been occurring there for at least 3 weeks. Who gets to decide what a "reliable source" is? I believe that the two biggest newspapers in Orange County (Daily Pilot, which is an affiliate of the LA TIMES and the OC Register) are reliable sources, but the editors deleting the content I added don't believe them to be, and they believe the information added is "trivial"? What is "trivial"? The specific occasion referenced in those articles is possibly THE issue that this Councilwoman is mainly known for in Orange County. Any discussion of her career that does not include this really relevant piece of information is just not complete. If you're going to delete what I wrote, please do the same with the other side. --Socalpolitik (talk) 04:40, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:BLP: "Biographies of living persons ("BLP"s) must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives..." If other editors bring up BLP concerns then material should be left out until there is consensus to add it. Don't edit war to put it back in. --NeilN talk to me 04:45, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WRT your edit at Vladimir Putin, you gave the reason as 'couldn't find consensus for this'. In my humble opinion though, I like to believe in WP:DRNC. IMO, you should provide actual reasons in your edit summary for editing. As the essay points out, you haven't given people a handle on how to build the consensus with you that you desire - makes it hard to reach agreement! θvξrmagξ spellbook 02:22, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no, I stand by what I did. In this case Lothar removed contents with the edit summary "rm section per talk: public opinion acceptable, other opinions not" [1]. I'm not disagreeing with what you did (he did blank a large section), but I just feel it's more informative to provide edit summaries with reasons less vague than -no consensus- such summaries don't really tell anything, IMHO. θvξrmagξ spellbook 02:46, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In general I agree with you, but I wasn't saying "no consensus". I was saying that I couldn't find the discussion for the edit (I realize that I could have been more clear). I did give him a day and a half to respond, during which he was editing. --NeilN talk to me 02:54, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gardner

You've said Gardner isn't a good source for himself. I edited something to do with Wicca. That's the religion he created. It's like saying Christ/the bible isn't a good source for information about Christianity or Anton LaVey isn't a good source for information on Satanism. If they created or defined the religion aren't they the primary source you should go to in order to understand what their religion - not the person - is all about? It really makes no sense to me to say such citations are incorrect.
