Coursegoules is a small village ≤commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the mountains above Nice in southeastern France almost directly above the site of the Cannes Film festival. Coursegoules was founded anciently during the Roman Empire and ruins can still be seen on the outskirts of the village.
The name Coursegoules in literal translation means 'path of ghouls'; ghouls in this case referring to the howling of wolves. Curiously in recent years the French government has reintroduced wolves into the region much to the distress of local sheep herders. The wolves are protected and even though they kill sheep, the sheep herders are not allowed to hunt them. [1]
