Odd behavior of TedderBot
Not quite sure what triggered this diff, but the bot seems to be removing newer rather than older articles. Choess (talk) 05:17, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- This is not an isolated incident. Happened here as well Regards, Illia Connell (talk) 14:58, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Confirmed. The bot is malfunctioning ([1]). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:32, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Noted the same. The last new articles were added on 24 March, and were from 23 March, after that the bot has progressively been gobbling up the newest articles in the list. Since the new article function is very useful and much appreciated, it would be very appreciated if you could have a look at this. Regards, Tomas e (talk) 12:08, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry folks. I'll dig into it when I have a minute- I've been working 7 days/week. tedder (talk) 14:38, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Happens too on User:AlexNewArtBot/NorwaySearchResult. Thanks in advance. Geschichte (talk) 20:16, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Since the bot is so important to a number of projects, and breaks down every few months, could you make the code available for others to fix? I am not sure how this works, but as much as I appreciate your assistance, it would be nice if others could step in when you are too busy and fix this. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:14, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Piotrus- it's already available on Github. I'd be thrilled if someone read through and figured out what was wrong. Otherwise I'll try to get to it later this week. tedder (talk) 14:53, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- A change was made in MediaWiki 1.21/wmf12 (installed on en.wiki March 11, 2013) that affects how the QueryContinue functionality works in the Java class WMFWiki11.parseQueryContinue(). They changed the attribute name from "rcstart" to "rccontinue" and added an additional value to the end of the timestamp to make it unique. I noticed that TedderBot is using the legacy QueryContinue. There is a new version mw:API:Query#Continuing_queries. Here is the MediaWiki change includes/api/ApiQueryRecentChanges.php diff for this bug report API uses non-unique value for paging for some modules. --Bamyers99 (talk) 23:50, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Whoa! Thanks Bamyers99! I'll update my java api, I'm sure that will fix it. tedder (talk) 02:06, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Tedderbot
Hi Tedder, I'm a designer and the Wikimedia foundation and I just discovered Tedderbot! This is fantastic and its everything I've ever wanted. I would love to chat with you a little bit about some ideas around the articles collected by Tedderbot, I believe it has tremendous potential.

Tedderbot enhancement
I don't know if it is viable for Tedderbot to tag the talkpages of the NewArticles with appropriate Wikiprojects, as in most cases it return perfect results. I guess using the same dataset and codes (I am not from a computer background) after some modifications, it will be able to add those tags very easily. Please consider adding this functionality to the code. Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:29, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
I'm trying to fix one of the links on it (Do It ('Til You're Satisfied (album) got moved to Do It ('Til You're Satisfied) (album), which to my mind is an implausible typo), but it keeps coming up with Wikimedia error. Could you try making the edit?--Launchballer 22:31, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, is tedderbot still working? The pages I usually follow no longer get any updates. --Soman (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- It's disabled for a short time because it's using an API that was changed underneath it. I need to update the code and put it on a different machine before restarting it. I'd hoped to do so this weekend but so far I've had no weekends (where weekend = "not working long days") recently. It'll be soon- I saw the underlying code was updated, so getting it running should be easyish. tedder (talk) 22:32, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the rapid reply! --Soman (talk) 22:33, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Still not updating. Buaidh 14:27, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
- Not yet. Buaidh 14:36, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- We're dying out here! Must...must have...must have new articles... Buaidh 20:11, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Please, I know it's broken. Posting daily isn't helping. tedder (talk) 20:40, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Just teasing. I know this isn't how Wikipedia currently works, but perhaps we need multiple editors for significant bots. Thanks for all your work, Buaidh 02:54, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

New pages
I keep expecting TedderBot to add new pages to User:AlexNewArtBot/MedicineSearchResult, but it's been a while and doesn't seem to have happened. Is there a problem with the bot? WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:06, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yup, there's a problem with the bot. Look above this message. It'll return soon (this weekend or next, hopefully). tedder (talk) 01:31, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Good work
Just want to thank you for Tedderbot. Ive used its history to find lots of older articles to add to the San Francisco Bay Area task force. I check it regularly, its extremely useful, and the search terms you programmed into it are pretty comprehensive (I don't think i have any to add). good luck on getting it running again. I can wait. To Mr. Tedder
Dear Mr. Tedder,
I am writing to you this letter, as there is a major problem and I believe that you are the best person to talk to about it.
First of all I would like to make a few comments on the profile that you have in wikipedia, telling you that I find it very smart.
In fact I chose to write to you out of a large number of administrators, as it seems that we have a lot of things in common. Unfortunately you are not mentioning anything about your motorcycles, but I would like you to know, that I am a great fun of them too, that's why I have an old collective BMW and a Honda of 1988 (both of them are in absolutely perfect condition).
The reason that I am communicating you, is because someone that was using the name : "Panagiotis Xenos-Kokoletsis" appears in a number of pages in wikipedia and this is a major problem for me, as it is creating a confusion that turned out whenever I have applied for a job, because all of the employers are asking me whether this person is me.
I would like to tell you, that this name is extremely rare, as we are only four people in the whole planet with this name (me and three cousins of mine) .
The problem though, is that I am keep on loosing job positions, as the employers can not know whether this person is me, or not. As you can understand this has as a consequence that I can not cope with the financial obligations that I have towards my family.
I will kindly ask you to delete these pages from wikipedia, as can not do it myself.
The links for two of them, that I found just now are the following :

I am really looking forward for your reply
