Drama[1] (Kannada: ಡ್ರಾಮಾ) is a 2012 Indian Kannada romantic comedy thriller written, directed and co-produced by ace director of Sandalwood, Yograj Bhat. It stars Yash, Radhika Pandit, Satish Neenasam and Pragna in leading roles. The movie was produced by Yogaraj Movies and Jayanna Combines, the leading Production houses of Kannada Film Industry.

Music is scored by V. Harikrishna while lyrics are written by the industry's most successful combo Jayanth Kaikini and Yograj Bhat. S. Krishna, the magician behind the stunning visuals of Mungaru Male joined Yograj Bhat for the movie after the gap of 6 years and the editing is by Sanath Kumar and Suresh.

After the average hit of Paramathma, the last venture of Yograj Bhat, this was the second project for the Production house, Jayanna Combines. The director has opted his trusted and tried genre – romantic comedy – as the core subject of his movie.[4] Hindi and Marathi cinema actor Atul Kulkarni was picked for the negative role after, Prakash Rai, who was the original choice for the role.[5] He was again replaced by Tamil actor Sampath Raj.[6] V Harikrishna scored the music and background score. S Krishna of Mungaru Male fame handled the camera. Drama is produced by Jayanna and Bhogendra.

Critical reception

Drama received generally positive reviews from film critics upon its release. DNA gave the film three and a half star rating praising the acting and the technical departments.[7] Rediff gave the film 3/5 rating and concluded saying, "(the film) is worth a watch for all the entertainment the young team gives us."[8] Prakash Upadhyaya of Oneindia gave the film three out of five stars and commented, "Hilarious one-liners, romantic songs and a little bit of philosophy. Last but not least, there is a message in the film."[9]IBN live reported 'Drama' is a film that genuine Kannada film audience can not miss.[10]Bharatstudent reviewed as Passable entertainer, can be watched once.[11]Chitraloka rated as spicy taste of masala.[12]Times of India gave 3.5 star rating.[13]Indiaglitz rated it 7/10.[14]

Box Office

Drama got a fantastic opening upon release. The film went on to be one of the highest grossers of 2012 by completing 100 days of run[15] and grossing 12 Crore against its 4 Crore budget and was declared as a Super Hit.[16] The film elevated Yash to Star Status and established a loyal youth fan following for the actor, including many female fans.

Soundtrack

The music of the film was composed by V. Harikrishna. The audio album was released in the end of September, 2012 and was well received. "Thundh Haikla Sahavasa" was a huge hit.[24]
