Untitled

Awake is a 1994 album from progressive metal band Dream Theater. It is much darker and heavier than their previous studio album, and is the last album to feature keyboardist Kevin Moore.

Track listing

  1. "6:00" (5:31) (music by Dream Theater, lyrics by Moore)
  2. "Caught In A Web" (5:28) (Dream Theater, Petrucci/LaBrie)
  3. "Innocence Faded" (5:43) (Dream Theater, Petrucci)
  4. "Erotomania" (6:45) (Dream Theater, instrumental)
  5. "Voices" (9:53) (Dream Theater, Petrucci)
  6. "The Silent Man" (3:48) (Petrucci)
  7. "The Mirror" (6:45) (Dream Theater, Portnoy)
  8. "Lie" (6:34) (Dream Theater, Moore)
  9. "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream" (6:05) (Dream Theater, Myung)
  10. "Scarred" (11:00) (Dream Theater, Petrucci)
  11. "Space-Dye Vest" (7:29) (Moore)

The CD booklet lists tracks 4, 5 and 6 under the title A Mind Beside Itself. However, the back of the album cover makes no such distinction, and lists them as above. Each song is a separate index on the CD, and Dream Theater treat them as individual songs at, for example, live concerts. They were, however, played together (back to back) and released on the live album Live Scenes from New York and are listed under the title A Mind Beside Itself parts i, ii and iii on the DVD discography.

Personnel

Trivia

  • Kevin Moore announced his leaving of the band when the band was finishing the recording of the album, which, according to John Petrucci, was unexpected. [1] He was thus excluded from the rest of the album-making process (such as mixing) [2] and doesn't appear in the two music videos produced from the album.
  • The band has never performed Space-Dye Vest live. Mike Portnoy said that they're not willing to do it without Kevin Moore, as "it's his song" [3], and they would've left it off the album if they would've known that Moore wanted to leave the band. Moore has been offered several opportunies to perform the song with Dream Theater as a six-piece, but has declined so far.
