Van Damme as a solitary surname

Last time I checked you don't use "of Somewhere" surnames as solitary identifiers even with context established. This is simply because "of New York" or "of Paris" or "of Damme" doesn't identify the family in question, let alone the person in context. It's disrespectful in a way. 2601:C:AB80:3D1:BE5F:F4FF:FE35:1B41 (talk) 07:13, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Van Damme" is the surname by which he is most commonly known. Please see WP:SURNAME.
Notice that that doesn't address "of Location" surnames. See Leonardo da Vinci. Likewise, search through the article and find a single place "da Vinci" is used isolated. The appropriate address is either "Jean-Claude" or "Jean-Claude van Damme"... but never "Van Damme" which simply reads "of Damme".
