Florin Gardoș (born 29 October 1988 in Satu Mare)[1] is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as centre back for English Premier League club Southampton and the Romania national team. He can also play as a defensive midfielder.

Club career

Steaua București

On 17 June 2010 he was transferred to Steaua București.[2] On 16 August 2010 Gardoș made his team debut for Steaua in Liga I against Victoria Brăneşti.[3] In September 2011, he was suspended 10 games for breaking the leg of Băcilă, Pandurii Târgu Jiu's player.[4] On 11 November 2012 Gardoș scored his first goal for Steaua in a 4-0 win against Viitorul Constanţa. After the departure of Vlad Chiricheș to Tottenham Hotspur, he became a regular starter and recorded 6 matches in the UEFA Champions League.

Southampton

On 14 August 2014, he joined Premier League side Southampton for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around €7.5 million, signing a four-year deal.[5][6]

International career

He made his debut for the senior team in a friendly game on 8 February 2011, against Ukraine.[7]

Personal life

Gardoș' parents are Traian and Dorina.[8] He also has Hungarian ancestry and once was on the shortlist of Hungary national football team manager Sándor Egervári, however, since he already made a full international appearance for Romania, he is unable to play for Hungary.[9]
