Hey folks. I've put in a submission for a presentation at Wikimania called Is Two the Magic Number?: The Co-op and New Editor Engagement through Mentorship. I'll be talking about the state of finding help spaces on en.wiki and how our new mentorship space, The Co-op, factors into that picture. Reviewing will begin soon and I'll need your help if I want to present it. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. If you would be interested in seeing this presentation, whether you are attending or not, please add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal (you do not need to attend Wikimania to express interest in presentations).

Chicago Meetups in 2015?

@Drummerdg: Yeah, let me talk to TeriEmbrey about when we might arrange our next meetup, and if it's a little ways away, we can consider doing one at another venue like Harold Washington Library or one of the local Chicago libraries. @Drummerdg: and @I JethroBT: Staff at PMML likes a Saturday in April. So, how does April 18th sound? I need to know that experienced Wikipedians will be here to help run it on whatever day gets chosen, before I request a block on the time/space on our internal calendars. @TeriEmbrey: I'm not entirely sure I'm "experienced", though I appreciate the sentiment! Of course if @I JethroBT: needs some help, I should be able to lend a hand. @I JethroBT and Drummerdg: The April book club book is Sgt. Reckless by Robin Hutton. It is the end weeks for the Navy SEALS exhibit as the Summer exhibit follows the career of Erasmus Corwin Gilbreath who fought in the the Civil War, the Indian Wars, and the Spanish American War. I am not tied to any one theme as there is so much to do to make Wikipedia better. Glad to hear April 18th works for everyone. TeriEmbrey (talk) 14:48, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GAR for Sunil Kumar Verma

Dear I JethroBT, nice to read the history of your name! You wrote it was Bot before and now 'BT' and that BT has no specific meaning. in India BT means 'Basic Teacher'. That is a well known degree title here, and the one who completes BT become Basic Teacher and writes 'BT' after their names.

Well, I was referred to you (here) by @Jim Carter:. I shall be grateful if you could help in GAR of my another article Sunil Kumar Verma. It has just been checked and 'Copyedited by Philg88 and before that by W.carter and me. All the issues raised in GA (here) have been addressed and seems to be ready to go now! Draft New Article - Sir Andrew Flamock

Hi Jethro,

I have started a draft article for the Tudor Courtier Sir Andrew Flamock in my sandbox. I believe he is noteable primarily for his notorious schoolboy humour gaffe made to Henry VIII about Anne Boleyn but he also played his part in various other Tudor actions particularly as the Kings Standard Bearer. If you google Andrew Flamock and Andrew Flammock you will see he pops up in literature, comedy and historical contexts.

Do you agree he is worth his own page as I don't want to spend time writing something only for it to be deleted?

@I JethroBT: Hi Jethro, this weekend is fine. Having thought about it some more, although Andrew Flammock tale is interesting it is what his tale tells about Henry VIII and Tudor politics which is most important imo, i.e.
  • 1 - Henry had a coarse sense of humour when it suited him
  • 2 - His sense of humour failure with the crude jest about Anne Boleyn demonstrates he really did love her
  • 3 - Henry's subsequent forgiveness and promotion of Andrew Flammock after the beheading of Anne Boleyn demonstrates the fickleness of Tudor politics

@Sliven2000: Is the draft at User:Sliven2000/sandbox? There are no sources on the article right now, so until there are, I can offer nothing helpful in terms of advice. @I JethroBT: Yes it is in my sandbox. The refs are original sources like the Patent Rolls etc plus contemporary books which you probably will not be able to access without going to a History Library. WP:Co-op news for December 2014 – Feburary 2015

Hey I JethroBT, it's been a while. The Co-op team has been hard at work during over the winter, so let's get right into what's been happening:

Landing page draft. You know it's a draft when you need to squint at the logo, ha ha.
  • Graphic design work is nearing completion and development work is coming along slowly but surely. The main components of the space, profiles, the landing page, and the mentor landing page have all been built, and we're basically just putting the pieces together. We have close-to-final draft of the landing page, which is currently at User:Slalani/Landing_page, and in the thumbnail to the right. You can check out other components over at User:Slalani if you're curious. Soni, Slalani, and I are working together on some of the front page elements. We've also been doing some testing on test.wikipedia.org for profile building and matching. If you're curious about checking that out, let me know.
  • We've finished up a survey for newer editors to assess their experiences of using existing help spaces (e.g. Reference Desk, Teahouse, IRC, The Wikipedia Adventure) on en.wikipedia. Gabrielm199 is putting together a summary of that survey, and in the meantime, some findings from that survey of 45 newer editors include:
    • On average, editors found contributing to Wikipedia to be easier after using the help space compared to before.
      • However, after using one or more help spaces, only half of editors reported that editing, addressing social challenges, and resolving technical issues were easy or very easy. The other half of editors were either neutral, or reported that these matters were difficult or very difficult.
    • Just under 30% (11 of 38 editors) of newer editors said they probably would have stopped editing entirely had they not received support from the help space they used.
    • Editors frequently reported either 1) that they would not have been learn what they needed without the help space, or 2) That they could have found it, but admitted that it would have been difficult or taken much longer.
  • We will be making one final move of the pilot start date to March 4th, 2015. This is the last move (I promise), because we can't afford to run the pilot any later than that. So there it is: March 4th or bust! But we won't bust, because there are just a few things left on our plate before we can run our pilot successfully. I'll be alerting you about when you will be able to make mentor profiles soon, so when you get a message about that, please take a minute or two to create your profile here (otherwise, you won't get matched to any editors!).

Meetup Chicago

I was wondering if I could help coordinate a photowalk or some other event in Chicago since it is so difficult to coordinate one in St. Louis. I will likely be in Chicago the last week of March, which is coming up fast, but I can usually make an excuse to be there in the summer or whenever. @Mark Schierbecker: Yeah, let's make that happen! I think it'd be better to schedule this for the summer. I've actually just scheduled some edit-a-thons in late March and mid-April in the Chicago area, so I think a photowalk would be better to run in the summer. Seeking help with attribution and paraphrasing

Hello! You don't know me, but Lightbreather mentioned you as a possible lead in helping me find some help at Rose-Baley Party. Specifically, there have been some concerns about my paraphrasing, sourcing, and attribution. I think much of the problems are already resolved, but I need a neutral second or third opinion on the current state of the article regarding these points, as well as any relevant advice moving forward. You're welcome! I didn't read the whole article, just that particular sections because it seemed the most problematic. I'm a little strapped for time right now because of both this mentorship space I am piloting soon and off-wiki matters, so I can't devote time to reviewing the whole article for a bit. Whatever works best for you, I JethroBT (can I call you Jethro?). If you are too busy right now then feel free to do it when things calm down, as I'd rather get you at your least time-constrained. Having said that, it would be really nice to have someone dispel the concerns sooner rather than later, but I'll be equally appreciative for whatever time and effort you can afford me, now or later.
