Editing the sandbox

Hey i thought it would be better to write the article in my sandbox, so i have moved the entire text of Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu to my sandbox, but the page still shows, I do not know how to remove the main page of the article can you please help? Thanks. Devanshi1208 (talk) 12:11, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Jethrobot,

I have not spoken with you in a while; how have you been? --JustBerry (talk) 04:42, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Justin, I'm well. How about you? By the way, did you used go by a different username? I was just reviewing our interactions, but other than seeing you around The Teahouse, I can't remember where else I know you from. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 05:22, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hey Jethro,

That's the last article I made that mistake on, changed the other ones (moved to talkpage) that were reverted by other users. --JustBerry (talk) 16:38, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Rating Mathematics Articles

Hey Jethro,

I rated a couple of WikiProject Mathematics "unassessed" articles yesterday, but they do not appear to be updated here. Any ideas if the updating script/bot is working, or for that matter, if there is one? --JustBerry (talk) 18:43, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

I think this updates once a day. I just forced an update here for mathematics, but there are still unassessed articles which clearly have an assessment. My only guess is that "small" parameter you've been adding to the assessment templates may be messing with it, but that doesn't seem likely. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 18:53, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
Okay, let me try removing the "small" parameter and update the project. I will let you know what happens. --JustBerry (talk) 18:56, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
Changed all articles to the simpler "one-line" format that you suggested and force updated the project. It doesn't appear to work. --JustBerry (talk) 20:04, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

WORD Reversion

Hello! Thanks for the notice. Will be more careful next time. The user seemed to have no activity other than that page, and the talk page was empty as well. Doesn't excuse me not fully reading the diffs though. Will do better next time! YuviPanda (talk) 18:15, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

New users don't really know about this sort of stuff and they need to be given the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, some of the warnings about vandalism (and perhaps even the copyvio tag that I put on there) might have driven the editor away. I appreciate that you'll take more care in the future. References issue

Hi Jeth, I need to add a references (which I have) for this section Clarence_Hotel#Media, but I don't know how to use {{cite AV media}}: Empty citation (help) and this page Template:Cite_AV_media is to hard for me to understand. Can you help?? Ms.Bono(zootalk) 19:53, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Of course. Can you reply with the reference information below? It looks like the template definitely needs the following:
  • Head person involved in the AV and their role (e.g. a director): director: Carolina Cubillo
  • Title of work: Callejeros Viajeros
  • Type of work (e.g. Motion Picture, DVD, Radio broadcast, trailer, etc.): TV Show
  • Date published: December 7 2009
  • Publisher: Cuatro (TV channel)
  • URL (if available)
If there's other information (like translated titles into English if it's a foreign title, or the location, you can let me know that, too.

I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 20:02, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Is a Spanish TV Show (Street Travellers in English) where reporters travel to different countries to know about the culture etc, this one is about Ireland is the 23rd chapter of the 2nd season. There are more details above. ↑. Thanks :) Ms.Bono(zootalk) 20:16, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Here's the syntax you need; you can paste it into the article the first time you reference the source:
<ref name=Cubillo>>{{cite AV media| people=Cubillo, Carolina (Director) | date=7 December 2009 | title=Callejeros Viajeros| trans_title = Street Travellers| medium=Television production | location=Ireland | publisher=[[Cuatro (TV channel)]]}}</ref>
Thereafter, you can use this wiki markup to reference it:
<ref name=Cubillo />
I'll be away this weekend, but let me know if you have any other troubles! I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 20:49, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Jeth. I will try that and let you know :) Thanks!! :): Ms.Bono(zootalk) 19:20, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Start Snuggle

Thanks for your hints. I have requested a user name change, not indicating the company. Aren't most company articles started by someone from company? /From a first time creator of a an article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ingate678 (talkcontribs) 19:29, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

  • Many times they are, but often they are too promotional or are otherwise essentially spam, and are quickly deleted. Yours is a rare exception, and I'd guess you have either read up on Wikipedia policies or have used an appropriate article from another company as a sort of template to write this one, which is a good practice. Keep in mind that although you have written this article, you do not own it-- it can be changed by anyone (though things like obvious vandalism can be easily undone, even by you). This is an important concept to understand, because, for example, if bad press were to be written about your company and covered by reliable sources, it would be perfectly fine for someone else to add that content to the article-- just something to consider. Hey Sarah. I've posted this to the Teahouse Questions page here: Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#ISBN_bot.3F. By the way, what exactly went wrong at the Questions page? Many thanks in advance for your advice and/or assistance.

Neuroleadership

I saw your quick vote after I nominated the page for deletion. I haven't been involved in a deletion before so I'm not sure what passes for good information. I don't mean to argue with you here, I wish to understand the process. You provided a couple citations, and sure, I could see some of those, there's even one from the New York Times. But if you have any familiarity with the PR machine, you'll know how easy it is to get coverage in the mass media. So the issue shouldn't be how many citations can we dig up in a google search, but a harder question on how many *relevant* citations are there? The contention is that "neuroleadership" is the creation of an individual, David Rock, who coined the term to describe his executive coaching business and created a self-reinforcing PR cascaded which generates press coverage. How else would he be able to sell his books, services, etc? He is not an academic who is working on brain science / neuroscience applied to management/leadership, nor is there evidence of collaboration -- the academics mentioned in the 2007 Businessweek article you found have no publications on the subject. One doesn't have to be an academic to come up with some "new scholarly area" as he claims, but then one wouldn't lie about his credentials like Rock does on his website: "He received his professional doctorate in the Neuroscience of Leadership from Middlesex University in 2010," when in fact that university has no such degree or course of study. Before starting the nomination process I posted on the Neuroleadership Talk page evidence that his idea has *no* acceptance in the field in neuroscience (I then realized there had to be a different way to deal with this problem and discovered the nomination for deletion process). Out of 1.5 million scholarly papers indexed by the NIH/National Library of Medicine on brain science / neuroscience there are zero publications about it (that's what I meant by *relevant* a few sentences ago... if a scientific claim is made, what do the scientists say?) There is a biomedical journal article that discusses "neuroleadership" but when I actually read the article and looked at the citation in it, the citation was to an online "journal" that David Rock posts on one of his websites! Again, a classic PR cascade. We can turn up lots of hits in broad google searches but to me one has to look at them critically... many are interviews with David Rock, or stories about David Rock... they are NOT about how leadership is related to *specific* aspects, theories, mechanisms, etc. of neuroscience. I turned up an article on "neuroleadership" in a blog called "NeuroBollocks - Debunking pseudo-neuroscience so you don't have to"... does that qualify as an argument against non-notable? The Wikipedia general notability guideline requires that things be "independent of the subject" but the problem here is that David Rock's business over the past few years has generated PR that superficially distances him, but if scratched below the surface it turns out it's not independent of the subject... it's all about David Rock and consulting business. How do we prevent Wikipedia from being exploited by people who try to use it to lend legitimacy to their parochial interests? There has to be a way... Lapabc (talk) 08:06, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

I can understand your reason for nominating the article. I have a background in cognitive psychology, and the whole thing reeks of something he made up one day. But here are my reasons why the article should be kept:T
  • The contention that the subject may represent a fringe theory is not really relevant here considering the article is about the fringe theory itself, nor are the individual's credentials. Even coverage discrediting the theory is still considered significant coverage, and certainly would not be a reason to delete the article. Coverage is coverage is coverage.
  • Forbes, NYT, and BusinessWeek are not PR machines. I am familiar with the PR machine, and there is a huge difference between something appearing in newswires or PR service publications and getting coverage from larger news companies with established editorial teams, and as such, constitute reliable sources.
  • The subject has significant coverage. A common problem with neologisms is that they receive only trivial mentions and often are not referred to as a developed concept but are incidental. This does not appear to be the case here.
Even though there may be little validity to this concept (which is something that can certainly be added to the article so long as it is discussed by reliable sources), and it may very well be that Rock paid a lot of money to get PR, the fact that the topic is covered in-depth by independent, reliable sources. I think your best bet is to find coverage of the idea that provides information that it may not be backed by empirical studies (keep in mind due weight by avoiding bombarding the article with criticism). I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 17:13, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I posted a reply on the deletion debate page... I hope you are persuaded this time. Btw, a lot of those mass media articles you cited are just interviews with David Rock or stories about David Rock... yet there is no Wikipedia page on David Rock because he is not, well, he is not "notable" enough. I know there is a lot of junk on Wikipedia that we must tolerate. In cases like this I would prefer that Wikipedia is not used as a free PR engine for people whose flashes in the pan will fade away. If this guy really has something, then great, let's see in a couple years, but not now. I'm going to stop at this point. Nice chatting with you.Lapabc (talk) 22:43, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I missed this question. When you create a page on Wikipedia (any kind of page, even a user page), it needs to be reviewed or patrolled. One reason this is done is to check for speedy deletion candidates like blatant vandalism or copyright violations. The only exception to this is when you have the autopatrolled designation, which means that pages you create do not need to be patrolled. Users who have this right must request it, and usually have a history of creating at least 50 articles without any concerns. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 16:34, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

DYK-Good Article Request for Comment

How do i post something that could have used help with my article?

Hello, thank you for reviewing my article. Since I recently created an article, do you know how to get users to work on my article? My article needs some major reworks in information and stuff like that because I worked on this for two days straight and my computer was heating up so i had to post it right away without having time to correct. BTW, what do you think of my article so far? Good? XXzoonamiXX (talk) 06:27, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I think it's coming along well. I have a couple of suggestions:
  • You're using the same reference many times, which is fine, but it's listed in the references as though it were a different source each time. There's a way to collapse these into one line, which you can read about here.
  • Morton's fate revealed sounds like a chapter title out of a fictional novel rather than something encyclopedic. Try something less dramatic.
  • Sometimes the tone in the article veers more toward a dramatic personal account. For instance, "On the early morning of December 25, Gulovich made a decision that saved her life." The latter part of this can be removed and replaced with what she actually did. Check around the article for other examples and try to avoid this kind of tone throughout the article.
As for how to get people to see your article, you need to connect it to other articles on Wikipedia in ways that make sense. Lists are sometimes a good way to start (e.g. List of executed people). You can also ask at the Teahouse for a review. You might also consider looking at good article criteria and using that as a guide to get your article in top shape for a good article nomination, which will require peer review. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 06:14, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
I never say anything about people seeing my article. What I said is I want OTHER users to help me rework the article without having to post the same topic on one user pages to the other (which is against the Wikipedia rules). Also, what does that mean "check around the article for other examples?" Like something specific? I can't go around from article to article to see what is good. I mean, I'm on my own with no explicit help or guide at all. Also, I don't know how to use the ref even though I read the instructions (which is confusing and not helping me at all). XXzoonamiXX (talk) 06:43, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Visibility is one way of getting your article improved, that's why I suggested it. When there are more eyes on the article (because people can more easily find it), they tend to make small but important changes over time. You should also realize that when you write articles, you usually are on your own. It's a learning process, and yes it can be steep, and that's OK because learning Wikipedia is not a race. I suggested the Teahouse to you as a place to ask for help, but realize most people don't have the time to dedicate to doing a complete rework of the article. I also wrote an article on a reporter, Leon Daniel, so perhaps you can use that as a reference for tone. You also seem to know how to do references, as many appear in your article. Can you explain what trouble you are having with using the same reference more than once? I would rather see you be able to do this rather than do it for you, because you'll learn better doing the former. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 06:55, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Associated_Press_reporters How exactly is Morton on the "J" Section when all of the last names are listed in alphabetical order? It doesn't make any sense. How do you do that? XXzoonamiXX (talk) 08:20, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Oh wait, nvm I got it.XXzoonamiXX (talk) 08:26, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

No rush for it. I am working on a draft for a new article --> (). I need to find if the book released date was on 22, 23 or 26 November 2006. Can you make some research? Again, no rush for it. Whenever you have time. Thanks in advance. Miss Bono [zootalk] 19:21, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
I did a bit of snooping around. I have a few sources that say a version of the book was actually released on September 26th ([1], but I am not sure this is the international version or not. There was also a book signing on September 22nd ([2]) for a version of the book. So, it's hard to tell; my guess would September 26th if it's the correct version. It's probably OK, however, to just say November 2006 in the article without worrying too much about the exact day. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 01:04, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Nørreballe again

Hello Jethrobot and thanks for taking such an active interest in this article. It is indeed interesting to see what problems other users face in accessing sources what have never presented problems for me. I don't know where you are located but I move around quite a bit myself, mainly between Denmark, Luxembourg and France, and have never had any difficulty in accessing PDF files such as [[3]]. This one, by the way, was included as it testifies to the important historical role of Østofte Church in the community.

The references concerning the church in the body of the article (again in Danish) refer specifically to the frescos or murals on the chancel vaults. This one states that "a fresco decoration in the chancel's star vault from c. 1380 presents a clever depiction of the Creation combined with prophesies of the coming of Christ." Unfortunately I cannot comment in detail on the Google Books reference apart from being able to confirm that it does indeed include Østofte Church. I have discovered that depending on where you access Google Books, you have different displays of the information, sometimes an entire chapter, sometimes just snippets. I did not include the reference myself as I cannot access more than snippets. The Historisk Atlas reference does not just contain maps but has various sections with explanatory text. The section on "Kalkmalerierne" which is on the right-hand side of the header states: "Kalkmalerierne er blandt de mest spændende af de middelalderlige kalkmalerier i vore kirker. Udsmykningen i korhvælvet er klart opdelt i tre niveauer, som i malerierne er adskildt med flerfarvede bånd." (The frescos are among the most exciting frescos from the Middle Ages in our churches. The decorations in the chancel vault are clearly divided into three levels separated from each other by multicolored bands.)

In my short article on Østofte Church, I also included a reference to a much longer mid-20th century Danish National Museum account of the church. Pages 857 to 860 include a detailed description of the frescos. I have now included the reference in the Nørreballe article too, specifying (as you suggested) which pages refer to the frescos.

If you are unhappy with sources in Danish, then there is a real problem. Indeed, the majority of articles I have written about the smaller Danish localities and their landmarks in recent months are based and referenced essentially on the basis of Danish-language sources. Google Translate sometimes produces usable translations but it frequently churns out garbage or misleading translations from Danish. Perhaps you could use it to see if appears to reflect my accounts (if you still feel the need). This is in fact the first time a DYK reviewer has questioned the validity of using Danish-language sources in articles about Denmark.

I've added key explanations to the template. See you around.--Ipigott (talk) 09:20, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your work, Ipigott. I'm in the Chicago area, so that might explain that different in book snippet accessibility (which I had no idea about-- I appreciate you alerting me to this!) Just to clarify, I never had an issue with the fact that the sources are in Danish (although I cannot read it). There is, of course, never a problem using non-English sources for a topic like this one. My main concern was that I could not access the atlas (at first) nor the snippet and was concerned about the ability of others to do so. Unfortunately, I was hoping for another editor to step forward to check things out, but I probably should have made that request more clear on the DYK nomination. I appreciate your legwork in providing me the information here and on the article itself, and I'm glad the DYK is on its way. Take care, I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 18:48, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Fall Chicagoland event

Heard from User:TonyTheTiger you might be working to plan a fall Chicagoland Wikipedia event? The Pritzker Military Library is interested in hosting in effort to step up as a GLAM institution--is there an email for you I can put you in touch with the Chief Librarian? Many thanks.SarahPML (talk) 21:15, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Sure, that sounds like an excellent plan. Send me an e-mail with their contact information at IJethrobot at gmail dot com. I'm shooting for sometime in October-- I'll see what dates work well with the library. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 07:11, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Are you interested in running a Wikipedia Takes America and/or Wikipedia Loves Libraries.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 02:31, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I think a Wikipedia Loves Libraries event would be more up my alley, also because my September will be more busy than October. Do you think suggestion by SarahPML (talk · contribs) for the Pritzker Military Library would be a suitable place? The caveats that I can foresee right now are that 1) There is a $5 entry fee to the library per [4], 2) Their hours are 10AM - 6PM on weekdays, 10AM - 4PM on Saturdays, and they are closed on Sundays; I work a 9-5 job outside of the city so getting back will be tough for weekdays and 3) I'm if editors will be interested in participating if we just focus on Military History topics. However, Howard Washington Library is just a short jaunt from the Pritzker, so we could start at the Pritzker for a bit as it does seem like a pretty impressive institution, and split up based on people's interests. What are your thoughts? I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 03:21, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Last year we almost had WLL at the Pritzker. I got discouraged by lack of turnout and cancelled. I encourage you to do whatever theme you think is likely to make the event a success. All the events I have hosted have been on weekends.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 04:50, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Saint Maighneann/Kilmainham

Hi! Jet ........ I added some information to the article entitled "Kilmainham." This was deleted by Singularity42. I also put up an new article on Saint Maighneann. This never appeared. I am the editor of a site Inchicore.info and I have taken some my own material from that site to add it to these two articles. I quoted the original sources (books) from which I obtained the scholarly information in the first place.

The result is that the present article on Kilmainham is a disgrace and does much to confirm the widespread notion that Wikipedia is a very poor source of information.

The question is; How can an article be written accurately without using any of the words or phrases in the original source material ..and.... without misleading the reader? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msriposte (talkcontribs) 08:03, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Well, let me ask you a question first. What is worse: An article that is considered a poor source of information or a copyright violation that could potentially mean a lawsuit for the Wikimedia Foundation from the copyright owner of the text material? You cannot copy text into Wikipedia from copyright sources, period, because we don't have permission. So, to answer your question, you need to make the effort to summarize the content as best you can in your own words. I would suggest reading this guide on how to do so. And if you want to show me a draft of your additions/changes in your user sandbox, I'd be happy to check it out before you make changes. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 08:13, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Saint Maighneann

Hi! Jet ...... thanks for your attention so far ..... can you assist me in putting a page with some information(however scant) about Saint Maighneann that enables me put publish my painting of Saint Maighneann which I have already donated to Wiki Commons. Msriposte (talk) 09:22, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

How about I meet you halfway? Try to make a new article about the subject putting things in your own words here: User:Msriposte/Saint Maighneann and I will help improve it. Let me know when you want me to take a look. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 19:36, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

WER changes

There is absolutely no reason why improvements can't be made to the version with my contributions if that is what the project wants. I have no problem with your revert and will not challenge it of course.--Mark 17:52, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Mark-- another reason I reverted is because I think your contributions are overwhelmingly positive and saw no concerns that those changes in particular were taking the project in a direction that folks disagreed with. I think WP:WER has some soul searching to do, but I think that deals more with the types of discussions happening there more than the main page itself. On another note, I don't know the full extent of the frustrations you are facing, but I do know it usually feels pretty awful when it feels like there is nothing to be done. I think some of these feelings pass with time, but if yours do not, that's fine too. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 17:58, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

RE speedy deletion tags

I am new to this kind of thing and attempting to work on new pages too. I am wondering though if some of your speedy deletion tags aren't being put up rather quickly. I saw the one about the womens soccer team and almost immediately you put the tag on it. Just curious. I left a note on the talk page but thought I would come and ask you directly I thought we were supposed to give time for them to actually add some content before tagging it. TattoodwaitressLetsTalk 21:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I agree that I was mistaken. I admit that I am sometimes a bit hasty in tagging articles for speedy deletion. However, in my defense, it is fairly common for new editors to leave articles in substantially unfinished states with the expectation that someone else will come along and improve them. Or they find the interface too difficult to work with and abandon the draft in the mainspace. Or they just forget. New editors are also reminded at the top of new pages with the following
  • When creating an article, provide references to reliable published sources. An article without references, especially a biography of a living person, may be deleted.
  • You can also start your new article at Special:Mypage/ARTICLENAME. There, you can develop the article with less risk of deletion, ask other editors to help work on it, and move it into "article space" when it is ready.
Given these suggestions that editors should read, I generally don't give a lot of leeway for editors who start an article with little or no content. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 21:51, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh ok. Thank you, I understand. I did go to the editors contribs and saw that there was another article created about the same type of topic so I just thought maybe they would add some more content is all. Thank you for the information above. TattoodwaitressLetsTalk 21:55, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

re; Saint Maighneann again

Hi! Jet I did as you asked and put up a freshly written article on Saint Maighneann........ I'm still have problems with it could you help out ..... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msriposte (talkcontribs) 10:28, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

I've made my additions and added several sources, and have moved the article to the mainspace. I also decided it was best to remove the image you added of Saint Maighneann because it's probably best to remove the large black border around the image and your signature in the image (attribution can be described on the file page itself). I also want to echo the concern expressed by PrimeHunter (talk · contribs) that even if no other images of the subject exist or you cannot access them (I have been unable to find any), it does not necessarily mean an image you create should be used, particularly because we cannot verify the accuracy of your representation. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 20:14, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your help Jet .. greatly appreciated.... very happy with the article ... but sure would have liked to have the only image of Saint Maighneann included. Time-challenged

I rewrote the article so it’s easier to read. Time-challenged has a particular spelling. It means having too little time. Too little time does not mean wasting time; it means actual lack of time from paranormally short time, imminent tornado, darkness, etc. There is no original research or synthesis of sourced material in the article. I'll put this comment on the deletion discussion page also-Truexper (talk) 21:29, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

teahouse thread:Is there a public place for editor commendations/recommendations?

Hi, JB! It appears I inadvertently opened a big can of worms. User:Keri redacted the entire above named section earlier today. I replaced it and left her a note telling her that disruptive edits were generally hatted at the teahouse, unless there was a case of WP:OUT or WP:NPA. I really didn't know the history of the OP in the thread, and I still do not see as it matters. I absolutely do not see any disruption in the thread, except for keri's redaction and eric corbett's reaction. The newbie did nothing wrong! Apparently, there is history between the guy and User:Eric Corbett, who eventually bit my head of in the thread, accusing me of personally attacking him. It should be noted that NOWHERE in the thread was anyone's name mentioned, until corbett himself stepped up after I had put it back and said it was him the guy was talking about.

To put it mildly, I am pissed. Keri came back and redacted the OP's entries in the thread again as personal attacks (how is something that mentions no names ever personal?). As you are the matrie 'd at this time (sorry), I figured it should be you that figured this out. I am on record elsewhere for feeling that this idea of walking on eggs with "prolific content creators" is for the birds. No one is irreplaceable. we will all die someday and if we continue to let the likes of the aforementioned scare off new users, there will be no one left to carry on.

Feel free to do what you will, even if it is nothing. I am at a loss, and really tired of bullshit. This newbie writes well, asks intelligent questions and IS NEW! The mission at teahouse is to help him, not massage the ego's of the eric corbett's in the community. Peace be with you. Gtwfan52 (talk) 22:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi I Jethrobot, I came to this page because I saw a note at the end of your signature that said "Drop me a line." I checked some of your other posts and didn't see the same note so I assumed that you wanted me to come to your talk page and discuss this issue. Before I get into discussion with you, here, I just wanted to be sure that this is what you intended. Is this a correct interpretation? If not, I apologize and could you please clarify where the correct place is to engage and discuss the issue with you? -- My Best, Frank --FGuerino (talk) 02:25, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
FGuerino. That is just part of his signature. But like most good editors, I am sure JB will be happy to discuss things with you. BTW, please don't take what happened at the Teahouse as some indication I am taking a side in your dispute with Eric. Far from it. I do not know nor do I want to know about it. I was simply defending the thread, which I thought you handled just fine, and trying to support the goal of the Teahouse, to help newer users. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:31, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
As Gtwfan said, that's just a phrase that directs you to my talk page (I think it is on all of my signatures, actually...where did you find it without?) It's probably better if we stick to your talk page since my initial comment is over there. (See Don't lose the thread). I'll be watching your talk page, don't worry. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 02:35, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

@I, Jethrobot, I apologize for the confusion as I went through some of your contributions to research how you handle people before responding, just to get a sense of whether you were consistently civil or not. Apparently, I misread or misinterpreted your signature somewhere and thought you meant to come to your talk page. My apologies. I'm just very exhausted from three nights of very little sleep so please forgive the mistake. I'll take the time to respond to your post on my talk page, sometime tomorrow, when I can think straight and discuss the topic with a bit more clarity. -- My Best, Frank --FGuerino (talk) 03:24, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Chicago Meetup

Hey Jethrobot, I saw your announcement about an upcoming Chicago meetup and that the PML was an option for hosting it. I'm currently talking to them about starting a Wikipedian-in-residence program there, and this would be a totally fun event to host. I could mention it when I go to meet the director this week if you're interested! Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 08:34, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Keilana-- that sounds fantastic! I know that SarahPML (talk · contribs) who was working at the Pritzker, was interested in having an event hosted. She contacted me in this thread saying she would put me in contact with the Chief Librarian, but I haven't yet heard from anyone yet. I think she may have only been working there over the summer, and was trying to get an event started around then. When will you be going to the Pritzker? Perhaps I could meet you there this week? I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 13:23, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes, as far as I know Sarah has finished her summer internship. I'm going Wednesday, I can ask then and see if they're interested, and then maybe you and I could meet with them in a couple weeks? I'm moving on Sunday (back to Loyola, yay!) so I may be super busy next week. Keilana|Parlez ici 16:19, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan, and thanks a great deal for your help. Let me know on Wednesday or Thursday what their interest is in the matter. Though, are you sure you wouldn't rather I join you this week (my Wednesday evening is free) in case moving in keeps you tied up? Setting up Wikipedians at libraries is also an initiative that I'm interested in helping coordinate. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 16:29, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
Is your Wednesday morning free? We're meeting mid-morning. I definitely want you involved in all of this if you're interested because we desperately need a GLAM program in Chicago and I don't think either of us could do it alone. I would love to get coffee/tea/food wither Wednesday or as soon as I'm all settled and talk about more things to do in Chicago! :) Keilana|Parlez ici 18:06, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
After pulling a few favors, it's free now! Shall we meet Wednesday AM somewhere downtown close to the PML beforehand? If you have a place in mind, why don't you e-mail me and we can figure things out from there. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 18:22, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

This is a CHU I thought I'd never see :P. I remember the orignal RFC/N :P Good luck with the newer version :) Mlpearc (powwow) 12:49, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Let's just say that, in spite of my user and talkpage notices, I've actually given it a lot of thought and talked with several people about it over the past two years. I think the tipping point for me is that I'm heavily involved in CSD and NPP-- when new editors first see my username, it's when is that I put templates on their article and user talk pages. There's so much stuff there, they may not even bother to read all of it, let alone my entire signature. They may just assume I'm some automatic thing doing it (particularly if they've dealt with ClueBot NG already.)
I also didn't know this is what I would be doing a lot of when I started that RfC, and I've never had a new user step forward to tell me they were confused about my name. But by doing this, I don't have to wonder about it anymore. I'm at the point where changing my name, particularly so slightly, isn't really a big deal for me. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 13:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Where did you see that, if I might ask? Also, I never really had to change it per this RfC. I decided to do it for the reasons above. Only once in the two years since that RfC has any editor actually expressed confusion/concern about my username. I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:02, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Quick help please.

Hi, Jeth, I am working on getting some picts for Wikipedia with Anna frodesiak, but I need an external favour from you. Can you access please here click me!, and search for the Vertigo Tour category and the click on an image of the band and post the link here?? Please... :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:17, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Will you be able to access the link, do you think? I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 15:52, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
No, it's for Anna Frodesiak. Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:56, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
I see. This photo is one good shot of the band. Many of the other photos are of Bono only or include photos of other performing bands. Keep in mind that these photos are probably not OK to use on Wikipedia unless you get the copyright holder (in this case, probably legal representatives of U2) to release them under a free Creative Commons license. I don't think that is actually likely to happen, so what is your and Anna's plan? I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 15:59, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Can you describe it to me? Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:53, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Sure. The photo is the band performing on stage during their Vertigo tour in 2005 with an image projected behind them of the album cover art from Boy. There is minimal but focused lighting on the band, and Bono is striking a flashy pose. Everyone is wearing black. The location of the performance is not given. Zoo TV Gallery. It's a black and white picture, Bono is with these shades. He is kneeling and extending an arm. If you can post here the name of the categories I probably could tell you which one could heve the picture in. Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:48, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I Jethrobot, your username confuses me, I thought you were a bot Lotje (talk) 15:19, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

There was already an RFC on the matter which is at the top of the page in large, friendly letters. Also, I find it very peculiar that this comment comes my way from an editor who is definitely not new just after I made a username request of my own volition at WP:CHU/S, not to mention I had just mentioned that it was never brought to my attention these past two years after the RfC. Can I ask that you explain what I said or did that caused you to believe I was a bot? My signature clearly states the contrary. I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 15:51, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I Jethrobot, believe it or not, but I have not visited any of the pages you refer to. I came across your username by coincidence and from what I made of it I Jethrobot, this confused me, because you could of course have said "Me Jethrobot", but that wouldn't be an ideal name either I guess. The thing is, usernames with the -bot- in it confuse me all the time. Hope this answers your question. :-) Lotje (talk) 17:08, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Well, it's a nickname and it's a play off of this novel. I actually sort of like Me Jethrobot-- it makes me laugh! Thanks you so much Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:53, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi JethroBT, thanks a lot for your prompt answer. I will see what I can do. I can read French no problem and I will see with the other languages through your suggestions. Thanks for your help again, until the next time! Itcheemonkee (talk) 16:42, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Edits

Can you tell me how many edits (%) I have on the main space out of all my edits? Please. Miss Bono [zootalk] 20:21, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Miss Bono. I'll again gently remind you that edit counts or percentages of where you've contributed are poor ways to assess your value as an editor. That said, you've made 528 edits to the mainspace, which makes up 7.64% of your edits. Can I ask why you want to know this? I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:31, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I just wanted to know how low was my % to increase it in the future. Miss Bono [zootalk] 20:42, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

You beat me to it.

I was waiting to close Ivan Drago myself. Appreciate your being on hand. Schmidt, Michael Q. 07:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ivan Drago You should've just said keep, no need to mention "No prejudice against future merge/redirect discussion, which should take place on the talk page" since that only encourages people to have the exact same discussion over again with less people able to notice what they are up to. Eight keeps, one redirect, and the nominator wanted delete. Should have great prejudice against future merge/redirect discussions. Dream Focus 09:21, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Two comments. 1) There was a clear consensus to keep, but some of those keeps were rather weak. Keep rationales such as, "I feel sure there is scholarly commentary" without providing sources, "Looks well known in movies", WP:ITSA-type arguments, and "If this gets deleted, so should Clubber Lang" (i.e. WP:ALLORNOTHING) were not particularly compelling. 2) More importantly, the keeps were in the context of an AfD. IMO, this was the wrong venue to have the discussion based on the rationale, and because of that, the idea of merging or redirecting was not really discussed except by Masem (talk · contribs) and, to some extent, the nominator. Compared to keep/delete arguments, mergers rarely get discussed or supported in AfD. I think Masem brings up some good points that were not challenged, so I see nothing wrong with encouraging that discussion to continue to its end. I, JethroBT drop me a line 17:57, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you; DF, the reason to point out the possibility of a merge is that without it, any attempt to merge would be immediately shot down by some editors pointing to the AFD says "even the closer didn't say anything about a merge! we must keep separate!" Jethro's decision to close as keep with merge option is pretty much the conservative option, and allows a proper merge discussion to take place (as I have already). --MASEM (t) 18:28, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
See how pointless this is? He didn't get the result he wanted in the AFD, so he tries again with a new discussion, just wasting everyone's time. The outcome will be the same. The rationale you need in an AFD is not needed in a Merge discussion by the way. Dream Focus 19:26, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Your expectations about the outcome are not relevant. Let it run its course so that an actual consensus about merge (not deletion) can be established. It's a completely different conversation. You can call it a waste of time all you like, but there is nothing wrong with discussing a legitimate and good-faith idea. Your accusation that Masem began the discussion because he didn't get what he wanted is also completely unwarranted and neglects his rationale. I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:33, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
The same people are involved, then it'll be the same results. Making everyone repeat what they said is just a waste of time. My "expectations" are just common sense fact. There is no chance of this ending any other way. Dream Focus 20:58, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Richard France

Thanks for your notice.

I'm not sure what else I can do. I've made all the changes to the Richard France article I can make without more specific direction as to what's missing.

Thank you, JethroBT! Please let me know what to do; I haven't seen your edits, nor do I know how to gain access to them and the improved article so that I can resubmit it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Filmian (talkcontribs) 23:52, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

World Marketing Summit

Hi JB

I have created this page. I am authorized by World Marketing Summit to create this page on Wikipedia, being one of their directors. You can confirm by writing to me on sadia@worldmarketingsummit.org or my colleague at 'info@worldmarketingsummit.org'. You will find World Marketing Summit's reference on www.pkotler.org (http://www.pkotler.org/thailand-to-consider-hosting-world-marketing-summit-2014/) & on his Wikipedia page managed by me (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Kotler) under Honorary Titles.

In case of any other query please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards Sadia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sadiafk (talkcontribs) 07:41, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sadia-- given what you have told me, you are in a conflict of interest, and I'd recommend not editing the article any further. There is a good reason we do not allow directors or other employees write an article about their own place of employment, specifically that it is difficult to write about one's own company in a neutral and non-promotional tone. Wikipedia is not a project intended to promote organization / events, and your intent to copy-paste content (even if you authorize it) from the organization's website is not within the scope of Wikipedia's aims as an encyclopedia. I encourage you to find another set of topics to improve upon rather than something you are intimately and financially involved with. I, JethroBT drop me a line 07:49, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
