Huggle message

Hey NickW557! You are receiving this message because you are subscribed at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers

I have recently launched a new downloads for beta testers that contains nightly builds of huggle, eg. versions that are built every day from our master branch and contains latest huggle. These builds are currently provided only for Windows and Ubuntu. You can find them here: http://huggle.wmflabs.org/builds/

Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Keep the bug reports coming to phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=Huggle Many thanks! Petrb (talk) 10:00, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick, with regards to my edit on the Home Office page, please see the link to other pages with regards to the sacking of a medical professional 'David Nutt' who was sacked as an advisor to the Home Office for telling them that they were wrong on drug policy, he is a medical professional and probably knows a lot more than a suit in the home office about what should and shouldn't be illegal.

"In 2007 Nutt published a controversial study on the harms of drug use in The Lancet.[12] Eventually, this led to his sacking from his position in the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD); see government positions below. Subsequently, Nutt and a number of his colleagues who had subsequently resigned from the ACMD founded the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs.[13]"

My recent edit on the Popcorn page

G'Day Nick,

Just sending you a message enquiring about your recent message to me about by edit on the Popcorn page being vandalism.

I was just informing the public that popcorn can be very enjoyable as found by the founder on popcorn being myself.

If you wouldn't mind, could you please put my edit back up.

Thanks,

Kind regards

Vandalism question

Looks like the guy who has vandalized Chip Coffey repeatedly is claiming here that there is libellous material on the page. How do we stop him from this sort of activity? I'm just getting my feet wet in the anti-vandalism community; hence the question. wia (talk) 23:45, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is a report pending at WP:AIV. If an admin blocks the IP then it should stop. I'd just leave the BLPN post alone for now. --NickContact/Contribs 23:48, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thanks! I'll steer clear of BLPN. wia (talk) 23:52, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The IP has been temporarily blocked. I went ahead and posted a reply on BLPN to provide some context. --NickContact/Contribs 00:00, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bloody Sunday Objections and President Johnson

Nick

There is a pretty clear effort here to re-write history. For 50 years, Selma was NEVER referred to as Bloody Sunday.

Bloody Sunday happened in 1972, in Northern Ireland, in which 14 people were gunned down and killed by the British

That event was far more bloody. This effort to re-write history and co-opt history is offensive.

I don't know what your rules are on President Johnson, but again, this is a pretty clear effort to FABRICATE HISTORY

Im not too familiar with the edit pages, but it is clear that Im not the only one who had made the correct corrections, and some people are intent on re-writing history for their own present-day political motives.

Nick I apologize, however I am not familiar with how to respond to you - but it is clear that this is a valid dispute and not any vandalism.

In fact, it is at its core an effort by some people to rewrite history, which is extremely wrong.

Hi and thank you for your message. I did a quick Google News search here and found a significant amount of coverage referring to this event as Bloody Sunday. It is entirely possible for two events to be called the same thing when they occurred in different parts of the world. Either way, that is just my personal opinion. What I can say is that consensus needs to be reached on the article's Talk page in order to make the changes you want to make, as it is clearly controversial. Changing the wording in the article, and then adding your own personal commentary under it, is not going to help matters. I would suggest clicking here and starting a discussion about it. --NickContact/Contribs 00:26, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nick

The issues I have brought up are valid historical issues - and it appears someone else is trying to re-write history. It also it appears they are pretty insistent on keeping their fabrication on the internet

From my brief look at some edits pages, Im not the only one trying to get historically accurate information up

My question I suppose is how do we deal with this - my efforts to add additional sentences to clarify different points of view have now been called potential vandalism. It was not vandalism, it was an attempt to find some language that might be considered a neutral ground

Who handles disputes like this

Coyote Cola (talk) 00:29, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nick

I see you did the google search - but all of those are CURRENT references to something that happened 50 years ago -

Over the first 49 years, no one EVER called this Bloody Sunday

This is offensive to the Irish, and disrespectful to the families of the 14 Irishmen killed by the British

Did anyone die in Selma? I saw a discussion about what really happened that day.

The article as it is up now has SIGNIFICANT historical inaccuracies - and that goes on to the points about President Johnson and the Voting Rights Act.

Most of this is settled history - there is some outside group trying to re-write history. Im just trying to correct it.

It appears Im not the only one either.

History should not be re-written to suit the political motivations of a few people 50 years after an event. It is that simple Coyote Cola (talk) 00:54, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion thread opened at Talk:Selma to Montgomery marches#Elimination of name of "Bloody Sunday" name and President Johnson. Lets keep it there. --NickContact/Contribs 01:05, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit was reverted because it inserted a line of plain text in the middle of infobox code. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's page layout before editing so that it doesn't break the page. You can mess around on WP:Sandbox until you feel comfortable. --NickContact/Contribs 02:05, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I was trying to undo what I thought was vandalism but I guess I accidentally messed it up I had no intention of any sort of harm Saturn star (talk) 02:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't mess anything up! I did! We both tried reverting the edit to my talk page at the same time, and I accidentally clicked on yours instead of the vandal's. I hope the barnstar makes up for it. Happy editing! :) --NickContact/Contribs 02:33, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not mad at all i've gotten death threats and porn put on my page(back when I was only 14 no less) on here so it takes a lot Saturn star (talk) 02:36, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selma to Montgomery marches talk section

Thanks for getting the talk section.started. (I had two edit conflicts as you and I were trying to post to Coyote's tp. I am a bit concerned about the number of editis adding similar material with similar self described motives. In the Bloody Sunday disambiguation list I added the same 'Bloody Sunday' cites for use of the name for the first Selma march on March 7, 1965, in the NYTimes in the same week, and a looking back article written a year later the gave a summary of the name's use for the event, as I did to the lede in Selma to Montgomery marches. I am sure that those with a sense of history realize earlier, similar Civil Rights events (broadly construed) lend their names to the minds of the participants and supporters of similar events. Not to put down popular music, but likely no writer expects to pack a history lesson into a song, rather that writer studies on history to write the song. Thanks again. I am thankful to know that you will be keeping a eye on this and closely connected articles. — Neonorange (talk) 06:26, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'm glad the discussion finally got started in the appropriate forum. Thanks for replying so it has a better chance of resolving the concerns civilly. I'll keep my eyes open. --NickContact/Contribs 06:54, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick,

How are you?

I am not committing vandalism but I am just mentioning a well-publicised fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.125.88.178 (talk) 02:46, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Probable error: John of Toledo

The page "List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events" says that John of Toledo predicted that the end of the world would occur in the year 1186, based on an alignment of planets. I clicked the link for John of Toledo and found that it says he died in the year 1275. This seems implausible, since it implies that John either made the prediction of the end of the world at a date already past, or that he made this prediction (and people found it noteworthy) before he was of mature age, or that he lived well over 100 years. Perhaps someone could rectify this, but I'm not familiar enough with Wikipedia to know to whose attention I should bring it. I notice that you edited the page recently -- do you know? Markthom1729 (talk) 13:24, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, it does seem very dubious. I've removed his prediction from the list and explained why on the article's talk page. --NickContact/Contribs 18:42, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My Ed Westwick Edit

You marked my Ed Westwick edit incorrect, however I know for a fact it is, because I have a mate very close to him, and we had to deal with the drama a few years back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Divajools (talkcontribs) 20:47, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with WP:BLP. While it is important that all content on Wikipedia be reliably sourced, this is especially true of information about living persons that may be controversial. --NickContact/Contribs 20:52, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi Nick How do I delete a page created by mistake? ~~frankteoh~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.6.68.58 (talk) 19:14, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to log into the account that created the page and tag it with {{db-g7}} at the top of the page. --NickContact/Contribs 19:17, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
