Brian K. Vaughan (b. 1976) is an American comic book author best known for writing the critically acclaimed series Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and Runaways.

Biography

As an undergraduate film student at New York University, Vaughan took part in Marvel's Stanhattan Project, a class for fledgling comic book writers which also helped Joe Kelly break into comic books. Vaughan's first credit was 1996's Cable #43 for Marvel, but he has since progressed through the ranks to become one of the most sought after writers in the field. Vaughan has written most of the major DC and Marvel characters, including Batman and the X-Men. He's also written several screenplays, stage plays, and short stories, but mostly he prefers writing comic books.

Awards

In 2005, Vaughan won the Eisner Award for Best Writer for his work on Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Ex Machina and Marvel's Ultimate X-Men. He also won the 2005 Eisner for Best New Series (along with artists Tony Harris and Tom Feister) for Ex Machina.

Vaughan was nominated for five Eisners in 2006 (Best Writer; Best Single Issue, Best Serialized Story and Best Continuing Series for Ex Machina; and Best Serialized Story for Y: The Last Man), but did not win any of the awards. [1]
