Information icon Hello, I'm WikiDan61. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Micronation, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Until you can find independent sources, please stop trying to add this information to Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:09, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Aquitaine

Robert,

You and I seem to be bashing heads over this issue, so I thought it might be better to have a reasoned discussion on the matter instead.

You have added this content to Micronation:

  • Current flag of the Republic of Aquitaine
The Republic of Aquitaine is a non-state sovereign entity It holds its cultural ties to Aquitaine which is situated in the region of the southwestern France. Currently, the Republic of Aquitaine is a government in exile established by its Declaration of Sovereignty.[1] The head of state is Thomas II, Grand Duke of Aquitaine, who has the highest level authority regarding all matters of state. HRH Grand Duke Thomas II as a descendant (of whom?).[2][3] The title of HRH is reflective and internal of the Republic of Aquitaine - a separate Non State Sovereign Entity from modern day Aquitaine.

You have further requested that this micronation be included at List of micronations, writing:

I would like to request that the 'Republic of Aquitaine'[4] be added to your list of micro nations.
The Republic of Aquitaine[5] is a non-state sovereign entity It holds it's cultural ties to Aquitaine[6] which is situated in the region of the southwestern France. Currently, the Republic of Aquitaine is a government in exile but with full legal sovereign status as established by its Declaration of Sovereignty[7]. The head of state is: THOMAS II GRAND DUKE OF AQUITAINE, who has the highest level authority regarding all matters of state. HRH Grand Duke Thomas II as a descendant[8].
Aquitaine Coat of arms
The title of HRH is reflective and internal of the Republic of Aquitaine - a separate Non State Sovereign Entity from modern day Aquitaine.
Thomas II Grand Duke of Aquitaine set forth a Declaration of Sovereignty [9] which has been the guiding force in the expansion and exploration of the Republic we now see.
Recently in the news a few press releases have been published such as:
Republic of Aquitaine announces new USA office and ambassador.[10]
Republic of Aquitaine Announces New India-Asia Envoy.[11]
Establishment of a Consolare Office in Italy for the Republic of Aquitaine.[12]

References

I oppose the addition of this material to Wikipedia on the grounds that the Republic of Aquitaine is not a notable entity. All of the sources you've identified are either (marginally related) Wikipedia articles or self-published websites and press releases. Since anyone can publish a website and any can publish press releases, the existence of these sources does not indicate any significant coverage of this entity, as would be required by Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines.

Rather than continuing to bash heads with you, I'd like to ask you (in light of actual Wikipedia policies, many of which I've linked in this discussion) why you think this material belongs at Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:25, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiDan61 I will speak with our US ambassador and get more sufficient references for you. However, if you delete my article under Micronations because of this... Re-read over all of the other micro nations, as most do not have any references at all, just a few sentences. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. I understand your complaints (when it comes to adding to the list of nations), the others I feel are unfounded.

Firstly, I'd like to contain this discussion to this page, rather than starting to have it spread over several different talk pages.
Secondly, while you are willing to accept the rejection of RoA at List of micronations, you are not willing to accept the fact that the material also has no place at Micronation#Alternative governments.
Thirdly, I strongly recommend that you attempt to create an article about the Republic of Aquitaine. (Actually, one existed in the past, but it was reduced to a simple redirect to Aquitaine.) If you update the present Republic of Aquitaine article with the content you feel belongs there, I will likely immediately nominate it for deletion, which will invite a community discussion on the matter. That way, it won't just be my opinion vs. yours.
Finally, I strongly suspect that you're right: many of the nations listed at List of micronations probably do not merit inclusion. I'm just one man; I can only tilt at one windmill at a time. If you would like to review the other articles and nominate for deletion the ones you don't feel belong, you are free to do so. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:46, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
