Nicomaine Dei Capili Mendoza, popularly known as Maine Mendoza or Yaya Dub[1][2] (born March 3, 1995 in Santa Maria, Bulacan, Philippines), is a Filipina internet celebrity, comedienne, and television personality.[3]

She is best known for her viral Dubsmash videos and her role as Yaya Dub in the noontime variety show Eat Bulaga!'s KalyeSerye airing on GMA Network and worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV.[4][5] During her time on the show, Mendoza was paired up with Alden Richards to form the love team "AlDub," which greatly caused the rise of the already very popular show's ratings.[6]

Personal life

Mendoza was born and raised in the municipality of Santa Maria in the province of Bulacan in the Philippines. She is the fourth of five siblings. She finished her elementary education at St. Paul School of Sta. Maria and high school at St. Paul College of Bocaue. She completed a bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde. She had her on-the-job training for her profession at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing, New York.[7]

Career

Mendoza's career took off after she began posting Dubsmash compilation on Facebook. A compilation in which she impersonates Kris Aquino went viral with one million views overnight.[8][9] This earned her the title "Queen of Dubsmash" in the Philippines and opened several opportunities for Mendoza. She had the opportunity to collaborate with many other Dubsmashers and meet Kris Aquino herself. Subsequently, she was casted as Yaya Dub, the maid of Lola Nidora (portrayed by Wally Bayola), on Eat Bulaga!'s Juan For All, All For Juan segment.[10] Mendoza's character, Yaya Dub, is paired with fellow Eat Bulaga! co-host Alden Richards, in a rom-com sketch part of the show titled KalyeSerye; the couple became popularly known as "AlDub".[6]

Mendoza and Richards are set to appear in a 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry entitled My Bebe Love. This movie will star Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai de las Alas and will be directed by Jose Javier Reyes.[11] Mendoza and Richards became the ambassadors of McDonald's and they appeared in a TVC on September 11, 2015.[12] According to The Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo, the pair may soon endorse a clothing brand and a mobile company as well.[13]
