Moonbeam City is an American animated comedy television series created by Scott Gairdner and starring the voices of Elizabeth Banks, Rob Lowe, Kate Mara, and Will Forte. It premiered on Comedy Central on September 16, 2015.[1]
A parody of 1980s cop shows such as Miami Vice, it is animated in distinctively bright, neon colors similar to the style of the 1980s artist Patrick Nagel and features a soundtrack of '80s-style synthesizer music, performed by Night Club.[2]
Characters
- Dazzle Novak (Rob Lowe): A Moonbeam City PD detective despite being unqualified for the job due to poor impulse control, horrendous reasoning skills, and even worse aim. Any success is normally due to luck or the assistance of others (usually his partner, Chrysalis).
- Pizzaz Miller (Elizabeth Banks): Dazzle's chief of police. She is frequently at odds with Dazzle due to his shoddy police work and defiance of authority (to the point where he entertains two prostitutes in Miller's office during a meeting with her).
- Chrysalis Zirconia[3] Tate (Kate Mara): Dazzle's colleague. She is the polar opposite of Dazzle (bright, charming, intelligent) but has to convince Dazzle to accept her as his partner so she can break from office work and work in the field. Her job usually entails doing the detective work and handling the technical aspects of the job, in addition to taking heat from Pizzaz for Dazzle's activities.
- Rad Cunningham (Will Forte): Dazzle's rival in the department. He respects authority more than Dazzle and is (slightly) smarter than his rival in handling office politics, but is prone to his own lapses of judgment, usually when trying to outdo or outsmart Dazzle.
