Requests to edit highway articles
FYI, there is a very valid reason why so many Interstate Highway articles (and related articles) are protected. However, it's a long story, and I'm not sure this is the appropriate place to tell it. I, for one, am hesitant to unprotect them given the current situation. However, if you can state here what you would like to place on these articles, that would make me feel better. At a minimum, even if the pages don't get unprotected, myself, or any number of other editors could make the requested changes for you. Cheers, Dave (talk) 03:57, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
- Reply: Some of those pages have no vandalism, they do not need protection. And others have been requested for Pending changes — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:181:E800:8A63:DFFF:FE96:6313 (talk) 04:00, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
- I'd be very hesitant at changing the protection levels. The vandal has historically not shown any hesitation to jumping to another related, but unprotected, article in the same category. That's why they were all protected together. A few specific articles should not have been in that category to start, but the majority warrant protection in this case. - Just to let you know, the pages in this request were articles in between Interstate 1 and 50 and others that had small amounts of vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.224.254.163 (talk) 14:17, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
- I also would oppose changing the protection level. The reason why some articles have less vandalism is we managed to get the vandal blocked and/or the full set of articles protected before he got to them. It's random and capricious which specific articles he's vandalizing, and we've tried everything else before taking it to this point. It isn't fair that he's insisted on continuing this campaign of random vandalism against the interstate articles. Be aware, however, that we're working on a trial run of an edit filter. If that works, we'll be able to return full editing privileges to all articles. --Jayron32 18:09, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
- Reply: I am thinking about having more than one protection level on the Interstate articles. An example of what would happen is one article becomes unprotected and another stays semi protected. 68.224.254.163 (talk) 01:59, 13 May 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.224.254.163 (talk) 23:34, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
When replying on a talk page, 68.224.254.163, you should start your reply on a new line and indent it below the comment to which you are replying. You can do this by starting your comments on a new line and prefixing them with colons, one per indentation level. Otherwise you give the appearance that your words are from the last commenter. You should also sign your postings. You can do so by appending 4 tildes (~) after your comments. Imzadi 1979 → 00:29, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Interstate highway 1-50, others protection levels
Unprotection
Articles to be unprotected include Control city, Pershing Map, Federal Aid Highway Acts, List of structures built on top of freeways, National Highway System (United States), Francis Turner (engineer), George Parks Highway, Iron Pipeline, List of highways bypassed by Interstate Highways, Temporary Interstate Highways, Interstate H-2, Interstate 24, Interstate 26, Interstate 35E (Texas), and Interstate 35W (Texas). Interstates H-2, 24, and 26 are the articles with the least amounts of vandalism and sock puppetry in Interstates 1-50. And Iron Pipeline is no longer in the category. Update: Iron Pipeline has been requested for unprotection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:184:E600:5C56:37AD:1A0A:6421 (talk) 00:33, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
