The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

@Mark McWire: Sorry for the delay; is the new Talladega track map (in the gallery above) suitable? Cheers, Sn1per (talk) 20:56, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thx, this looking good. --Mark McWire (talk) 05:03, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But it should be a spacing between track line and frame. --Mark McWire (talk) 05:04, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean a margin between the track and the border of the image? Most existing track diagrams that I could find did not have a margin, which I think is more useful than having a margin, because spacing around an image can be added in the wikitext. Having a margin in the image itself can look uneven if it is not consistent between multiple diagrams; having no margin ensures that the question of spacing around the diagrams can be determined and consistently applied on a per-page basis. However, if needed, a copy of the diagram can be uploaded with a small margin. Cheers, Sn1per (talk) 04:03, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've vectorized the Dover International Speedway map in the same fashion as the Daytona and Talladega maps. Is that appropriate, or would you prefer I make a version more similar to the original? Cheers, Sn1per (talk) 02:04, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's very good as it is. What is still missing is the Pitlane and the inner oval track. see [1] --Mark McWire (talk) 07:14, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry for the long wait. I just wanted to drop by and say that I really haven't been able to work on this request or do other Wikipedia-related work recently; you would probably get better and more prompt responses from another contributor. Sn1per (talk) 17:10, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Rapids, Michigan Flag and Seal

    Grand Rapids MI Seal
    Article(s)
    Grand Rapids, Michigan
    Request

Requesting cleaner versions of the flag and seal of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both original files are very dated and are sloppy. Here are some additional resources for those up to the task; this is a more colored version of the seal with the American red, white and blue shield and colored sky, though this image shows the details and lines of the seal. As for the flag, here is an example of the color and format. Updating these files would be greatly appreciated!--WMrapids (talk) 08:01, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Graphist opinion(s)
@WMrapids: Which of the examples would you prefer to be the main source for the conversion to a .svg file?
'A' this is a more colored version of the seal
'B' image shows the details and lines of the seal
'C' here is an example of the color and format
Due to the original date of the seal, I would pick the 'A' version since the font style is more appropriate for the 1850 date of the seals creation. In my opinion (imo) the 'B' versions font is too modern for the year 1850. IMO the two circles in the seal should be dotted like the 'A' version and not the 'C' version's rectangles.--Vwanweb (talk) 19:14, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vwanweb: I agree with the dotted borders. I prefer a little of 'A' and 'B'. From 'A', the original design, font and color and from 'B', the more distinguished light rays that you cannot see well in the metal portion of 'A'.
The finished seal should have the dotted borders, original font and blue-ish clouds with the hand emerging holding the black scale. Light rays in a similar color scheme to the sunset in the Seal of Michigan should be emerging from behind the naturally colored bald eagle carrying the arrows and tricolor shield. The Seal of Grand Rapids was designed in the same period of the Seal of Michigan, so the colors on this should be helpful.
Also, here is the history of the seal. You can see in the original that there may also be an olive branch held to the right of the arrows by the eagle, similar to other American imagery. I hope this helps you!--WMrapids (talk) 02:36, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image's request under progression Request taken by Vwanweb (talk) 12:59, 9 September 2017 (UTC). Thank you for the feedback on the items I brought forward. I will take a shot at this for you. I just want to ask for your patient up front, since the example graphic is pixel heavy.[reply]

Thank you and I understand. For the flag, I'm not sure if the colored seal should be used or not due to the existing flag (see 'C'). If there is a way to see the flag with both the colored seal and uncolored seal, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!--WMrapids (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done DePiep I didn't want to waste any time on the existing image since it is a raster image, so I created a new vector image (see below). -Offnfopt(talk) 20:32, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh. svg is the word I wanted to evade. So now I should replace all images iw-wide? -DePiep (talk) 20:38, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Could you just replace the png? (I tried in GIMP, but could not manage a simple "change color x into color y for selection z"). -DePiep (talk) 20:40, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and I experienced the name was changed too. Good to know. -DePiep (talk) 20:44, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You really know how to make someone feel appreciated. Took far more effort on my end to re-create the image as a vector (so it is easier to change the colors and edit) than it takes to change the image on small group of wiki pages. Offnfopt(talk) 21:14, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Request
Please remove the background of this non free image and upload it at the destination given above. I actually tried to remove the background but ended up removing the light blue border of the logo which the software couldn't recognize as the background was also blue and ended up putting a white background when trying to remove, which makes 2 mistakes. Even the logo File:Nvok logo.png also has this light blue border, which may help in recognizing the light blue border when extracting the logo properly.      Done King Prithviraj II I'm unsure on the language/words being used for that image so I'll let you handle the upload since it seems you're familiar with this subject. The image needs to be uploaded since the old image is a JPEG and the new one is a PNG. Here is a link for the edited image. - Offnfopt(talk) 22:06, 8 September 2017 (UTC) @Offnfopt: Thanks, uploaded at File:Ningalkkum Aakaam Kodeeshwaran logo.jpg. Request
The current image at the top of the article, File:Laniakea.png, contains annotations in Spanish. I think this should be changed to English. Second, the colors chosen for the letters in the image make some of the annotations very hard to decipher (at least for me, the red letters are barely readable). This should be changed to something easier to read. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:25, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
