Tamil Thalaivas (தமிழ் தலைவாஸ்) is a Kabaddi team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu that plays in the Pro Kabaddi League.[1] The team is currently led by Ajay Thakur and coached by K Baskaran. The team is owned by Nimmagadda Prasad and former Indian cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar. Actor Kamal Hasan is the brand ambassador of the team. Tamil Thalaivas play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Chennai), Tamil Nadu.
Franchise history
Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is a professional kabaddi league in India, based on the format of the Indian Premier League T20 cricket tournament. The fifth edition of the tournament is being played in 2017 with 12 franchises representing various cities in India. Representing the state of Tamil Nadu this season, the Chennai based kabaddi team has been branded as ‘Tamil Thalaivas’ and is owned by Nimmagadda Prasad and Sachin Tendulkar. Their home venue will be the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai with K Baskaran being the team coach [2].
2017 season
The Thalaivas had a good auction as they picked star defenders rams(france) and Amit Hooda, who bagged a whopping Rs 63 lakh, along with C Arun and Sanket Chavan to make the defence rock solid. They also roped in one of the best do-or-die raiders, Ajay Thakur, who will also be leading the team onto the pitch as captain. M Thivakaran and Sombir are other important names in attack. [3] [4]
