AutoWikiBrowser

Requesting autowikibrowser rights to assist in adding screenshots to video game articles and the boilerplate that goes along with that. Brubsby (talk) 15:57, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Brubsby, out of curiosity, what sort of page count is that likely to be? I'm also curious how you're going to automate that, since you'd have to still manually add the images and at that point it's not much different than opening a bunch of pages. Primefac (talk) 15:50, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Primefac, I mostly just wanted to cut down on the boilerplate of manually copying and pasting templated image descriptions and file summaries, as well as removing screenshot requests from talk pages. I'm not sure how much of what I want AWB to do is possible by default, but I am also a programmer and would be interested in writing modules/plugins if the capability doesn't exist. Category:Video game articles requesting screenshots currently includes ~6,200 articles, so there exists a lot of time to be saved from shortening the amount of time doing boilerplate work per screenshot. I recently moved an article (this one specifically) to a new title and need to fix the previous links since they now link to a disambiguation page, but there's too many to do on my own manually. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 23:37, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Automated comment This user has had this permission revoked in the past 180 days ([1]). MusikBot talk 23:40, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Illegitimate Barrister, I'm willing to going to grant this, but only if you agree to not go back to the behaviour that resulted in AWB being revoked in the first place. This means no multi-thousand-edit changes without some sort of approval (e.g. WCW tasks or requests for "this needs to be fixed"), no cosmetic/nearly cosmetic editing, etc. Does this sound acceptable to you? Primefac (talk) 15:50, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to make many similar changes to several pages, e.g. changing unmanned/manned to uncrewed/crewed in spaceflight articles. Kees08 (Talk) 06:47, 7 February 2018 (UTC) Kees08 (Talk) 06:47, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for an automated task (Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/SimplexityBot). Please shift to "bots" section of the checkpage to allow me to run in automatic mode. Thanks, Simplexity22 (talk) 15:00, 7 February 2018 (UTC) Simplexity22 (talk) 15:00, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
