Popularne is a Polish brand of cigarettes, owned and manufactured by the State Tobacco Industry in Kraków.[1][2] Consumers called them populares, killers or gwoździe (pol. nails).[3]

History

Originally, until the beginning of the 1980s, Popular was called Sport. It was with the intention of breaking the semantic connection between sport and cigarettes.[4] These products are very long did not have the filter, however, at the end of the 20th century there were also Popularne with filter. The product was characterized by poor quality, while the content of tar and nicotine was higher than in modern manufactured cigarettes.[5].
