Removal of description of Miranda as a Crypto-Jew
There is no evidence for Miranda being of Jewish ancestry, and he was certainly not a "Crypto-Jew" as this Wikipedia article stated. The best recent biography of Miranda by Karen Racine contains not a hint of Jewish identity or heritage. Worse, the extent and positioning in the article of those speculations seriously distorted the history of Miranda's family and his biography. In their own era, the Venezuela Mirandas were accused of African heritage, not Jewish! Miranda's father successfully defended his "purity of blood" at the political level, with the King of Spain threatening severe sanctions on anyone who spread derogatory gossip about his heritage. If the enemies of Miranda's father thought he was of converso heritage, they certainly would have pursued such a claim. As far as I can tell, the book by José Chocrón Cohen has not been cited or reviewed in any scholarly journal or book of history. There is a substantial group of scholars specializing in the history of Latin America's Jewish diasporas, and I could find nothing by them exploring any speculation that Miranda was Jewish. --Lastudies (talk) 19:01, 20 May 2018 (UTC) ---

The person who wrote this did a very good job of getting some important and fascinating details about this person into the article. I took the liberty of smoothing it somewhat and adjusting the wording so it would flow better. --- Decumanus 08:04, 26 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Thanks, Decumanus. My english is not so good. Thanks for your help. See you in some other article. --- T6435bm 06:21, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Yes, this reads well. Miranda's home in London is now cared for by the Venezuelan Embassy. --Alan 23:16, 28 March 2006 (UTC) --Alan 09:09, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Tricolor flag
Someone with more knowledge of South American history than I should add something about the tricolor flag used as a standard by Miranda, which later influenced many of the flags of the region. --Xyzzyva 09:28, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: State of Miranda
MIRANDA IS THE STILL UNRECOGNIZED FATHER OF THE US, THE TRUE FATHER OF THE COUNTRY REVEALED BY HIS PLANNING AND ACTIONS OF YORKTOWN BATTLE. IF MIRANDA HAD NOT PLANNED THE FRENCH NAVY BLOCKADE OF CHESAPEAKE, THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INDEPENDENCE — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.69.148.23 (talk) 20:31, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
My assumption is that the Venezuelan state of Miranda is named after Sr. Miranda. I would like to add this fact to the articles... if it's true. Can anybody confirm that this is the case? Cgingold 03:39, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

- You're right, it's true --Alejotsv (talk) 14:19, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, absolutely true. No other candidate possible for being at the origin of the name. Guy Pommares 11 September 2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.208.242.217 (talk) 00:59, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
