other accounts

Would you please clarify -- have you also edited using:

Please be aware that it is not OK to use multiple accounts to edit the same subject matter. You may not have known this. Assuming you didn't know, if you just

  • a) disclose all the accounts you have used, and
  • b) cease using all but one

it is "no harm no foul".

Please reply here and let me know if those two accounts were yours (or someone working with or for you), and if there are any others. I can help deal with formalities of marking them, etc. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:58, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Those accounts are not me or anyone that I know (as far as I know). Thanks. JHarbinger (talk) 19:01, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest in Wikipedia

OK, so picking up from the discussion at my talk page, here...

Thanks for disclosing that you are Jordan Harbinger, for creating an account, and for submitting for verification. We can do some orientation work while that is pending.

So...

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. Unmanaged conflicts of interest can also lead to people behaving in ways that violate our behavioral policies and cause disruption in the normal editing process. Managing conflict of interest well, also protects conflicted editors themselves - please see WP:Wikipedia is in the real world, and Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia for some guidance and stories about people who have brought bad press upon themselves through unmanaged conflict of interest editing.

As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step, which you have begun. To finish the disclosure piece, would you please add the disclosure to your user page (which is User:JHarbinger - a redlink, because you haven't written anything there yet). Just something simple like: "I am Jordan Harbinger and have a conflict of interest with regard to the page on myself and related topics" would be fine. If you want to add anything else there that is relevant to what you want to do in WP feel free to add it, but please don't add anything promotional about yourself (see WP:USERPAGE for guidance if you like).

I added the disclosure to Talk:Jordan Harbinger, so the disclosure is done there. Once you disclose on your user page, and address the question about alt accounts above, the disclosure piece of this will be done for the most part. I will pause here before moving on to step two. @Jytdog: I can confirm that an OTRS ticket was received and the user verified. The user page has been created and tagged as such. --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:50, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Jordan, just waiting for you to add the disclosure to your userpage... whenever you are ready we can move on to the next steps. Jytdog (talk) 19:47, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think I just did this. Is it sufficient? JHarbinger (talk) 20:55, 11 July 2018 (UTC) JHarbinger (talk) 20:55, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
