Sonique is the stage name of Kylie Love,[1] an American drag queen, dancer, reality television personality and transgender activist. She is best known for competing on the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race and placing ninth, as well as the first Drag Race contestant to come out as transgender.

Early Life

Sonique was born on May 3, 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia.[2][3] She came out as transgender to her mother at 15 and later was sent to military school to try to be "more masculine". She received a GED at the Albany Technical College.[4]

Career

Sonique was announced to be one of twelve contestants for season two of RuPaul's Drag Race on February 1, 2010.[5] She was placed in the bottom two in episode four and lost a lip sync to "Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q against Morgan McMichaels.[6] She revealed to be a transgender woman during the reunion episode.[7]

She was one of 30 drag queens for Miley Cyrus's 2015 VMA performance.[8]

In June 2018, Sonique was a backup dancer with McMichaels and Farrah Moan for Christina Aguilera at LA pride.[9] She appeared in the RuPaul's Drag Race Holislay Spectacular with seven other Drag Race alumni on December 7, 2018.[10][11]
