Fighting Foodons (Called Martial Arts Cooking Legend Bistro-Recipe, 格闘料理伝説ビストロレシピ, in Japan), is an anime series.

The original Bistro Recipe comic was first serialized in Comic BomBom in Sep 1999, with 1 Wonder Swan and 2 Game Boy Color video games. TV series first appeared in 2001/12/1 in NHK BS-2 satellite channel.

In the United States the series was dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment in cooperation with Enoki Films; Enoki Films held the license and contracted the dubbing to 4Kids. The series was aired on the FoxBox (now known as 4Kids TV). Chinese version was premiered on TVB Jade in Hong Kong, Fairchild TV in Canada starting on 2005-5-22.

Its theme song is a remix and a redub of Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld

Plot

In the land of Fighting Foodons, regular recipes turn in to meal monsters when the art of culinary combat's concocted. King Gorgeous Gorge and his Gluttons have cooked up a devious plan to rule the world & they sprinkled an extra dash of destruction. They plan to rule the world by kidnapping the best chefs & forcing them to make powerful foodons. A boy named Chase, a young apprentice chef w/an appetite for action, thinks he has what it takes to become an Elite Master Chef like his dad, Chef Jack. Chase believes that he, his friends, family, and Foodons can change the world one at a time, even if it involves going into battle against the Glutton Gormandizers, King Gorgeous Gorge's Big 4, & King Gorgeous Gorge's female cat-like servant, Clawdia. Then he'd have a final showdown with King Gorgeous Gorge.

Characters

Japanese names are in the Western order (Given name, then family name), and are followed by the U.S. names.

Protagonists

  • Zen Bakunouchi (幕之内　膳) / Chase - Chase is a 10-year old, impatient chef-in-training from Yokohoma. He's the son of Chef Jack and the brother of Kayla. He trains under the Foodon guru Oslo to make more Foodons so that he would become a Master Chef like his dad. His Foodons are Fried Ricer (turns into Super Fried Ricer when with a Fruit Turtle or Feast a Beast,) Hot Doggone-It, Burnt Meatballs, Shrimp Daddy, Dim-Sumthin' Special, Fruit Turtle, and Feastavus (a Deluxe Foodon fused by Shrimp Daddy, Dim-Sumthin' Special, Sir Dumpling, and the Burnt Meatballs.)
  • Karin Bakunouchi (幕之内　花梨) / Kayla - Kayla is Chase's 8-year old sister who fights with Coco for Chase's attention. She is usually seen guarding the M.A.C. (Mobile Attack Cuisine) Cart. Her Foodon's Omelet who is usually out all the time.
  • Tsujiki Bakunouchi (幕之内　月次) / Chef Jack - Chef Jack's a Master Chef and the father of Chase & Kayla. He's the leader of the Rebel Chef who fight against King Gorgeous Gorge. At the time of his disappearance, he disguised himself and called himself Chef John (Clown) to help out Chase on different occasions until his mask was destroyed. His Foodon's Tofurious while when Chef John, he used Shark-Fin Soup on 1 occasion.
  • Haoji (ハオヂィ) / Oslo - Oslo's a Grub Guru & was King of all Food until his student King Gorgeous Gorge reverted him to a short man who rides on a floating saucer. He has trained Chef Jack and is training Chase to become Master Chef.
  • Pi-tan (ピータン) / Pie Tin - Pie Tin's a 5-yr. old boy from Horai whose parents were captured by the Glutton Gormandizers. He joins Chase to rescue them & fight King Gorgeous Gorge. His Foodon's Sir Dumpling.
  • Natsume (ナツメ) / Coco - Coco's a girl who wears a wok on her head. Chase 1st met her on Banana Island & she's a student of Chef John. She later became friends with him & fights with Kayla for his attention. Her Foodons are Doughnut-So, Ham Scam-Witch, & Tater Tons.
  • Ash (アッシュ) / Albert - Albert's a chef who Chase & Coco meet at a Foodon Tournament. He later joins up w/Chase. His Foodons are Cowboyrito, Spagtabout-It, & Crab Quake

Bad Guys

  • Don Cook (ドン・クック) / King Gorgeous Gorge - King Gorgeous Gorge was 1 of Oslo's students & the 1 responsible for transforming Oslo to what he's today. King Gorgeous Gorge became King Gorgeous Gorge & started the Glutten Empire to take over the world. Not if the Rebel Chefs have anything to say about it. His Foodons are Fowligator, Sir Loin, Steak King, Multiprawns, Screwdles, Flyin' Flapjacks, Seafood Impastas, Sushi Ship, & Snack Attack.
  • Mianya (味亜味亜) / Clawdia - Dia's a young girl & a rocket scientist who was turned into a catgirl named Clawdia by King Gorgeous Gorge. She'll try to stop Chase & Coco on there quest to stop King Gorgeous Gorge. After Clawdia was restored to Dia, she sided w/Chase. Her Foodons are Beefsteak, Boulder Broth, Sgt. Side-Order, Noodle-Ator, Applegator, Chowderheads, Bearafooda, Doughnasour, Digestor, & Pasta Vazoomin.
  • Kima (キマ) / Cinnamonkey - Formerly a green monkey that worked w/Clawdia, Cinnamonkey's a member of King Gorgeous Gorge's Big 4 who tried to conquer the kingdom ruled by King Hungry the Ate. His Foodon's Shish-Ka-Beast.
  • Masa (マサ) / Cole Slawter - Formerly a green bear that worked w/Clawdia, Cole Slawter's a member of King Gorgeous Gorge's Big 4 who specializes in seafood Foodons & plotted to turn Chase into a Glutton, but that failed & Fruit Turtle reverted him back to normal. His Foodons are Sizzler, Octopoison, & Squid-Vicious.
  • Chu-Nyan (チューニャン) / Rose Marinade - Formerly a two tailed fox who worked w/Clawdia, Rose Marinade's #3 of King Gorgeous Gorge's Big 4. One time, she turned Kayla & Pie Tin into Gluttons by using Apple Pie seasoned w/Glutton Magic while she was disguised as an old lady. After she failed, King Gorgeous Gorge's vision in the sky reverted her back to her true form. Her Foodons are Spring Roll Chicken, Dim-Sumthin' Wild, Dim-Sumthin' Blue, Dim-Sumthin' Else, & a team of Dim-Sumthin' Specials, all of which(w/the exception of Spring Roll Chicken)fuse together into Dim-Sumthin Deluxe, a Foodon Deluxe.
  • Grill (グリル) - Formerly a bat with a mechanical eye that worked with Clawdia, Grill's a cyborg & the 4th (& most powerful) member of King Gorgeous Gorge's Big 4 who tried to use his Butcherbot to assist King Gorgeous Gorge's world domination plot. After 3 Foodons' destroyed his cyborg form, he reemerged back to normal. His Foodons are Tank 'N' Cheese, Mouse Special, Shakin' Bacon, Scarinara, & Gobblebot.

Foodons

  • Omelet (オムレッサー): Despite its cute appearance, it was made from a fluffy omelet. It always stays with Kayla and sometimes used in battle with Chase.
  • Fried Ricer (チャーマン): He is Chase's main menu with the pan (Or 2). He becomes Super Fried Ricer (エビチャー) when Fruit Turtle or Feastivus is Activated.
  • Beefsteak (ギュードン): A Beef Stew Foodon in which the ingredients for making him being Rancid Meat, Moldy Potatoes, and Stewed Carrots. One of Clawdia's most powerful Foodons. It launches Beef Rays out of its Meat Loaf Launcher.
  • Burnt Meatballs (マックロン): Chase's first attempt at making a Foodon. They're pretty useless unless if there's a HOT situation.
  • Sir Dumpling (シューマイト): He's Pie Tin's Foodon. Don't be fooled by his polite British manor. He's a karate dude.
  • Boulder Broth (コンソメタル): Clawdia's Soup Foodon. This Dinosaur-like creature rams into things, swats with his yail, and breathes fire out of his mouth that Clawdia calls The Boulder Breath.
  • Noodle-ator (やきそバトル): A Noodle in a Tank-Like body. He has extension arms, cannons, and a Missile Launcher. A glass dome covers the noodles. One of Clawdia's Foodons.
  • Appler (アップラー) / Applegator: An Apple Pie slice-headed Foodon with the body of an Alligator. He makes water waves and swats enemies with its tail. One of Clawdia's Foodons.
  • Gran Beret (グランベレー) / Sergeant Side-Order : Clawdia's Foodon sergeant whose made of Mashed Potatoes And Peas. He uses Military Tactics (like a trap).
  • Slice (ピザラーン): A ghost Pizza Slice Foodon that haunts the Flambe Forest and the Flambe Mansion.
  • Frenchy Le Toast: A ghost French Toast Foodon that accompanies Slice in the Flambe Forest and the Flambe Mansion. To keep his afterlife from getting stale, he enjoys fighting Foodon Battles in a Haunted Forest.
  • Grease Blobs (もじゃーん): These Greasy Guys are inhabitants of the Flambe Forest. Fat-N-Greasy Foodons aren't very fast on their feet. But when they drop from the sky, these Slobs of Blobs can really do a job.
  • Shrimp Stompura (ガッテンむす): Mussels Marinara's Shrimp Foodon. With karate kicks, lightning-fast lasers, and a super-strength seaweed assault, he's never afraid to put his foot down.
  • Cow Boyritto (ロールハイド): Albert's Burrito Foodon armed with a lasso that could bring enemies into submission.
  • Crab Quake (カニグラー): Albert's Crab Cake Foodon that attacks with its Crustacean Cannons.
  • Pound Cake (やきオーニー): Chet's tough Pound Cake Foodon. His speaks in the style of Elvis Presley.
  • Curry-Up (カレーダ?): Kima's Curry Foodon. There are three of them that come out at once to pour Curry Sauce on things.
  • Meat Sword (ミートソード)/Spaghettaboutit: Albert's Spaghetti Foodon you can't refuse. This pasta paisan uses his Linguini Lasso to rub out wiseguys worldwide. Think you can beat him? Spaghettaboutit if you can't!
  • Pilaf (ピラフィー): Chef Salvador's Pilaf Rice Foodon.
  • Juice Man (うにードル): Chet's Juice Foodon. He boxes mostly, has powerful stomps, and shoots Citrus Spikes from its head.
  • Swede Demon (にくだーん): Barb & Cue own 2 of these Swedish Meatball Foodons.
  • Hot Doggone-It (チェリソーン): Chase's Hot Dog Foodon. With his six-shooters, this gun-fighting frank is always quick on the draw. He was created on the S.S. Foodfight. Note: The Ketchup and Mustard shooters are edits done by 4Kids.
  • Indon (インドーン) / Gravyator: Kima's Gravy Boat Foodon. Good Gravy! Could this be fatal? Well one things for sure...when Grayator rocks the boat, everyone takes their lumps!
  • Tropical Punch (とこなっつん?): Kima's Tropical Punch Foodon. He hates to make waves. But when the tide turns against him, he can really pack a punch.
  • Puddington: E. Claire's Cute Pudding Foodon.
  • Tofurious (ボーボードーフ): Chef Jack's tough tofu Foodon is easily annoyed. He fights back with a barrage of Black-Belt Abuse.
  • Spring Chicken (はるマッキー): A Spring Roll Foodon created by Rose Marinade of Gorge's Big 4 upon the SS Foodfight. It has the head of a Spring Roll and the body of a flying chicken. Talk about Fowl Play! When spring chicken comes home to roost, Every Foodon flies the coop.
  • Shark-Fin Soup (フカヒレーサ): A Swimming, Shark Soup Foodon created by Chef John.
  • Tater-Tons (カニコロロン): Coco's overgrown Foodon made up of 3 Tater Tots.
  • Doughnut-So (ドーナン): Coco's Doughnut Foodon. It attacks with its Glaze Breath.
  • Ham Scam-Witch (サンドッチン): Coco's Ham Sandwich Foodon with the ability to make male Foodons fall in love with her in order to throw them off guard.
  • Oyakodon (オヤコドン) / Chowderheads: A two-headed Clam Chowder (one head of Manhatten Clam Chowder and the other one of New England) Foodon created by Clawdia and Tureen (who was under a Glutton Spell until her grandmother Jambalydia broke the spell). The heads always argue. One head speaks in the style of Dustin Hoffman character Enrico Salvator Rizzo from Midnight Cowboy (mainly the "I'm Walking Here" part).
  • Bearafooda (くまダンガー): This Foodon has the face of a Chocolate Chip Cookie and the body of a Bear. One of Clawdia's Foodons.
  • Rap Scallion (にくマン): Chet's Scallion Foodon that speaks in Rap Language.
  • Taco Star (タコスター) / Tacquito: A Taco Foodon that leads a gang of Foodons called Foodon Banditos and they reside in the canyons outside of Dusty Town.
  • Fry Slinger (ポテッター): A French Fry Foodon who is one of Tacquito's fellow Foodon Banditos. He will launch his Fry Attack at the top of his head when he takes off his hat. He's got the "Fastest Fries in The West".
  • Hot Dogger (ホッドッガー) / Chili Dog: Besides Tacquito and Fry Slinger, this Chili Dog Foodon is a member of the Foodon Banditos. He's part Dog, part Chili Dog.
  • Unadon (ウナドン) / Doughnasour: Clawdia's Sourdough Bread Foodon that has a Bread Basket for a mouth, the body of a Dinosaur, and the tip of the tail is a fan.
  • Ice Cream (マッチャン, バニラン, ショコラン): These Foodons are servants to the people of Dusty Town along with some other Foodons.
  • Sheriff Zuke Squash: This Zucchini Squash Foodon is the Sheriff of Dusty Town and works for Mayor Slim Rations.
  • Shish-Ka-Beast (シシカバトン): Cinnamonkey's Shish-Kebab Foodon with a Lion head on top, a Hippopotamus head in the middle (complete with arms sticking out holding a Rolling Pin and a Shield), and a Pig head at the bottom (complete with Knight legs).
  • Tropicolor (トロピカーラ) / Fruit Turtle : This 5-Star Foodon is a sea turtle with a palm tree, pineapples, coconuts, apples, and other fruits on its shell. It was created by King Hungry the Ate who gave it to Chase. The effects of its power gives Fried Ricer the ability to evolve into Super Fried Ricer.
  • Super Fried Ricer (エビチャー): A form taken by Fried Ricer when Fruit Turtle or Feastivus is summoned.
  • Sizzler (かまメシア): Cole Slawter's Seafood Mix Foodon. His paddle is poisonous and the fireballs he launches (when he takes off the lid of his pan head) explode firework style.
  • Takoya Killer (たこやキラー)/ Octopoison: A giant Octopus Ball Foodon created by Clawdia and Cole Slawter. It shoots ink and attacks with its tentacles.
  • Squid-Vicious (いかメッシー): A giant Calamari Foodon created by Clawdia and Cole Slawter. It attacks with its tentacles.
  • Pork Bullies (ホイコロン): These Pork Foodons travel and attack in packs. They cause trouble to the People of Hamsterdam.
  • Slop Suey: The Pork Bullies merge together into this dangerous Foodon. It has powerful Snout Breath and is the cause of Swine Flu.
  • Burger Brigade (バーガー戦隊): A Team of 6 All-American Burger Foodons under the spell of King Gorge and servants to Rose Marinade (Well, 5 of them). They're usually dedicated to fight against the Glutton Empire (Even after 5 of them were released from the Glutton Spell). The names of the Burger Brigade members are Burred (バーレッド) / Ground Chuck (the red one), Burblue (バーブルー) / Jamburger (the blue one), Buryellow (バーイエロー) / Cheeseburger (the yellow one), Burgreen (バーグリーン) / Veggie-Myte (the green one), Burpink (バーピンク) / Medium-Rare (the pink one) and Burblack (バーブラック) / Well-Done (the caped black one). After 5 were released from the Glutton Spell, they reunited with Well-Done and left to fight Glutton brutality. It is said that the color of their outfits are a spoof from the Power Rangers.
  • Dim-Sumthin' Wild (イェーローショウローン): Rose Marinade's Foodon has a Dim-Sum for a head and a red Serpent-Like Dragon body.
  • Dim-Sumthin' Blue (ブルーショウローン: Rose Marinade's Foodon has a Dim-Sum for a head and a blue Serpent-Like Dragon body.
  • Dim-Sumthin' Else (レッドショウローン: Rose Marinade's Foodon has a Dim-Sum for a head and an red Serpent-Like Dragon body.
  • Team Dim-Sumthin' Special (グリーンショウローン): Rose Marinade's Foodon Team of Dim-Sumthin' Specials each have a Dim-Sum for a head and a green Serpent-Like Dragon body. Chase and Co. claimed one of the Dim-Sumthin' Specials after Rose Marinade's defeat in order to form Feastivus.
  • Dim-Sum Deluxe (ビックショウローン): Dim-Sumthin' Wild, Dim-Sumthin' Blue, Dim-Sumthin' Else, And Team Dim-Sumthin' Special combine into this deluxe Foodon.
  • Ebimusha (エビムシャー) / Shrimp Daddy: This Deep-Fried Shrimp Foodon was created by Davy Gravy who later had it go with Chase.
  • Tank-N-Cheese (グラタンク): Grill's Macaroni and Cheese Foodon. It shoots flames from its cannons and uses its Macaroni Wrap.
  • Feastivus (テンシング): This Deluxe Foodon looks like a Dragon with a picture of a Dumpling, a Dim-Sum, a Star, and a Deep-Fried Shrimp on its frill. Dim-Sumthin' Special, Sir Dumpling, Shrimp Daddy, and The Burnt Meatballs make up Feastivus. He was created after Fruit Turtle's Death after Fruit Turtle defeated Dim-Sum Deluxe. The effects of its power gives Fried Ricer the ability to evolve into Super Fried Ricer.
  • Mouse Special (ジンギスかん): This Foodon was sent by Grill to help Clawdia capture the Burnt Meatballs, but it failed. Mouse Special is a Master Swordsman and a good Shapeshifter (Some of his Human Forms may show his tail or ears}.
  • Shakin' Bacon (メガトンかつ) (AKA Porkie Pie): This Pork Foodon grew from a naby (owned by Jambalydia and was captured by the Gluttons) to a flail-bearing monster sent by Grill to help capture the Burnt Meatballs. It turned good in the end.
  • Digestor (かたやキラー): Clawdia's Onion Foodon. A glass dome covers its small Onion Slices. It has a highly-advanced tank-like body with extention arms and Heat-Seeking Missiles.
  • Pasta Vazoomin (ごもクーガー): Clawdia's Pasta Foodon is A sphere-like satellite with a pasta top, pasta tentacles and Camera Lenses that spy on enemy Foodons. It transfers some of its power to other Foodons.
  • Wing Dings (フライッチン): These Chicken Wing Foodons work together in flocks and they belong to a Glutton Gormandizer.
  • Kimchicken (キムチックン) / Dread-A-Lettuce: These Lettuce Foodons also work together in groups and they belong to another Glutton Gormandizer.
  • Hash Bombers (コロロン): These Hash Brown Pattie Foodons also work together in groups and they belong to another Glutton Gormandizer. A Hash Bomber was first seen in the Foodon Banditos.
  • Ra-man (ラーマン) / Gazmacho: This Gazpacho Foodon is a robotic citizen and the Head Technician of Metabolis City. He is armed with a Laser Gun Arm.
  • Scarinara (にくみソナー): This Marinara-Sauced Pasta is a robot who helped Grill with the construction of Butcherbot and is armed with a Laser Gun Arm. He turned good when it came to Grill's defeat.
  • Gobblebot (サタンターン): This Pasta Foodon is also a robot Foodon who also helped with the construction of Butcherbot and is also armed with a Laser Gun Arm. He also turned good when it came to Grill's defeat.
  • Fowligator: This fire-breathing Chicken Foodon was one of the first monstrous Foodons created by King Gorge when he used it to overthrow Oslo. It has an Alligator head and a bird's body with a bird's face on it.
  • Sir Loin (こうきギュー): King Gorge gave this Sirloin Steak Foodon to Clawdia to prevent Chase for reaching him. He can turn his head upside down to deflect projectile attacks with his tray neck and shoot lasers from his horns.
  • Steak King (ステーキング): King Gorge also gave this Steak Foodon to Clawdia to prevent Chase from reaching him.
  • Seafood Impastas (ぺスカート): King Gorge's Seafood Pasta Foodons also rained from the sky.
  • Multiprawns (エビグラン): King Gorge's Prawn Foodons rained from the sky during his Ultimate Plot.
  • Screwdles (ワッフルン): King Gorge's Noodle Foodons also rained from the sky.
  • Flying Flapjacks (ホットケン): King Gorge's Pancake Foodons also rained from the sky. They throw their explosive forks as their attacks.
  • Sushi Ship (フナモルダー): King Gorge's Sushi Foodon. It shoots lasers from its hands just like Snack Attack. Both were destroyed by Super Fried Ricer and Feastivus.
  • Snack Attack: King Gorge's Snacks Foodon. It shoots laser from its hands just like Sushi Ship. Both were destroyed by Super Fried Ricer and Feastivus.
  • Bistron (ビストロン) / Devouron: The Foodon Embodiment of Evil. King Gorge uses the power of The Dark Nebula to become Devouron. It attacks with its Dark Lasers and The Fire Balls of Evil.
  • Brightron (ブライトロン) / Palator: The Foodon Embodiment of Good. Chase, Fried Ricer, Sir Dumpling, Shrimp Daddy, Dim-Sumthin' Special, and the Burnt Meatballs merge to form Palator. He attacks with his sword and the Fireballs of Good and defends with his Shield.
  • Jerk-Chicken: A Spicy Chicken Foodon that lives on an Islet in Molasses Lake on Banana Island guarding a supply of Curry Powder.
