USS Albany (1846)

[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by Auntieruth55 (talk). Self-nominated at 17:11, 2 January 2017 (UTC).

  • Comment only That hook is far above the 200 character limit. And the usual spelling is "Venezuela". Edwardx (talk) 20:03, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
  • "far above?" maybe by 20. I shortened it. It is well under 200 now. And Venezuela is spelled in standard now. auntieruth (talk) 15:35, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
  • @Auntieruth55: The character count is regarding the amount of letters/numbers/etc. in the nomination, rather than the number of words. As worded, the proposed hook is way over limit with 464 characters. See WP:DYKHOOK for more information. North America1000 10:40, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
  • @Northamerica1000: I've shortened it a little bit, but I cannot change the names of the articles to which it links. If this is unsatisfactory, then it doesn't need to go on DYK. auntieruth (talk) 14:54, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT1: ... that the USS Albany sank off the coast of Venezuela in 1853 with a crew of offspring of prominent political men?
  • ALT2:...when the USS Albany disappeared off the coast of Venezuela in 1853, its crew included the offspring of several prominent political men? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Auntieruth55 (talkcontribs) 22:07, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Full review needed now that ALT hooks have been proposed. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:59, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
  • This article is a newly promoted GA and meets the length and timeliness criteria. Approving ALT2. The prominent crew members numbered three out of a full crew of nearly two hundred people, so ALT1 will not do. The article is neutral, and neither Earwig nor I detected any policy issues.
