Principality of Sealand

1789 – The United States Department of the Treasury was founded following financial concerns in the new nation.
1792 – French Revolution: Due to an overwhelming fear that foreign armies would attack Paris and prisoners would revolt, revolutionaries began the summary execution of more than a thousand prisoners.
1946 – The interim government of India, headed by Jawaharlal Nehru, was formed to assist the transition of India from British rule to independence.
1957 – South Vietnamese president Ngô Đình Diệm began an official visit to Australia, the first by a foreign incumbent head of state to the country.
1967 – Paddy Roy Bates proclaimed HM Fort Roughs, a former World War II Maunsell Sea Fort in the North Sea off the coast of Suffolk, England, as an independent sovereign state: the Principality of Sealand (pictured).

Rwanda

Entry in here twice: 1988 and 1998 --> A United Nations court finds Jean-Paul Akayesu, the former mayor of a small town in Rwanda, guilty of nine counts of genocide, marking the first time that the 1948 law banning genocide is enforced

I assume it has to be 1998, but would like to ask someone else to make the final decision.

Google chrome was released on 2nd of september, and even google refers to 2nd of september as the birthdate of google chrome: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/back-to-future-two-years-of-google.html is it worth adding to the list? Simeon Stylites

The death of Simeon Stylites is mentioned here, but, he is listed as simply "Turkish saint". This is misleading, since he was not descended from the Turkic people who were not even in the area at this time, nor was he from a place called Turkey. I changed it to state a piller-hermit (with a link to stylites) and saint. but, since it seems it is practice to give some indication as to the country a person was from, I think I should add Byzantine, or Roman. The problem is, Roman could confuse people that he was from Rome. Another problem is the person above Stylites is a Roman emperor who also died a few years earlier, so it would look silly to list a Roman emperor and then a Byzantine saint. So perhaps to list him as Eastern Roman? But I will just put Byzantine for now, if anyone has a better idea then shoot.75.73.114.111 (talk) 19:01, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ivan Mauger

I have again inserted Ivan Maugers achievement as being a significant event. He is the only person to have won six Individual Speedway World Championship Finals. He did this when the whole of the planet could qualify for such an event, it was a true World Championship. In 1995 the International Speedway Organisation (FIM) dropped the one night final for an elite GP championship, which is like F1 and is not a genuine world championship. So as it stands Ivan Mauger possibly will retain this title indefinitely.
