Josephine de la Viña (April 15, 1946 – November 4, 2011) was a discus thrower from the Philippines who won a gold medal at the 1966 Asian Games, placing third in 1962. She competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics and finished 13th–18th.[1] She withdrew from the 1974 Asian Games to visit her father, who suddenly fell ill in the United States.[2]

Personal Life

Born in Iloilo to a Mexican-American father and a Cebuana mother. She spent her elementary and high school years in Cebu and eventually enrolled at Cebu Institute of Technology for college.[3]

Career

Dela Viña first played softball before concentrating on discus throw after athletics officials discovered her potential.[3]
