Aleksandra Živojinović (née Prijović; Serbian Cyrillic: Александра Живојиновић, née Пријовић; born 22 September 1995) is a Serbian pop-folk singer. She rose to prominence after her participation in the 2013 televised singing competition Zvezde Granda, where she finished fourth. Prijović has released three albums to date, Testament (2017), Zvuk tišine (2022) and Devet života (2023). She is considered the most popular singer of the Grand Production, and one of the most popular singers in the country.

Life and career

1995–2016: Early life and career beginnings

Born in Sombor, Serbia and grew up in Beli Manastir in Croatia and Bačka Topola, as a child, she showed a talent for singing.[1][2] She performed at school performances and social events. At the age of thirteen, she recorded two songs, "Majko" (Oh, Mother) and "Boli svaka tvoja reč" (Every Word of Yours Hurts), for the production company Mega Sound, whose owner was Mića Nikolić.[2][3]

She participed in the Serbian singing competition show Zvezde Granda (Grand Stars, season 2012–13), where she finished on the fourth place. After the show, Prijović released her debut song from the Grand Production music recording label, called "Još večeras plakaću za tobom" (Already Tonight I'll Be Crying for You). In June of the same year, she also recorded the duet "Ma pusti ponos" (Let the Pride Go) with the winner of the season, Amar Jašarspahić.[4] In January of the following year, she achieved great success with the song "Za nas kasno je" (It's Too Late for Us), since the song was chosen as one of the biggest hits of 2015 in Balkans, while also collected over 80 million views on YouTube.[5] On 22 December 2015, she released the duet "Šta bi" (What Happened) with Serbian rapper MC Stojan.[6] On 31 May 2016, she released the song "Totalna anestezija" (Complete Anesthesia), which achieved exceptional success and reached 66 million views on YouTube to this day. Already on 25 October of the same year, she released the song "Senke" (Shadows). The song was viewed million times in the first 24 hours, and broke the record on the Serbian music scene.[7]

2017–2022: Testament and Zvuk tišine

In February 2017, Prijović released song "Uspomene" (Memories), whose music video was recorded in black-and-white format. In April of the same year, she released the song "Litar vina, litar krvi" (A Litre of Wine, a Litre of Blood) in collaboration with Aco Pejović.[8] On 9 June of the same year, she released two songs "Telo" (Body) and "Sledeća" (The Next One) as the singles from her debut studio album. On 13 June of the same year, she released two more song "Klizav pod" (Slippery Floor) and "Separe" (Booth) for her debut album. The "Separe" music video was temporarily removed from YouTube due to its explicit scenes and sadomasochistic elements.[9] She released songs "Mesto zločina" (Crime Scene) and "Voljena greško" (Oh, Beloved Mistake), three days after releasing of "Klizav pod" and "Separe".[10][11] Prijović released her debut studio album Testament (Testament) on 25 July 2017, under the Grand Production label.[10][11] The title track, which was released on 6 June 2017, served as the lead single.[10][11] The song became the most popular song off the album, in addition to the singles that Prijović previously recorded and included into the album. The media claimed that, with the album, Prijović's style grew more and more reminiscent of that of turbo-folk star Ceca.[12] Prijović collaborated with Saša Matić, on the song "Ko si ti" (Who Are You), which was released on 25 May 2018. "Ko si ti" became one of the biggest pop-folk hits in Balkans and to this day, the song counting over 95 million views on YouTube.[13] After a short musical break cause of her pregnancy, Prijović came back on the stage releasing song "Neponovljivo" (Unrepeatable) on 1 June 2019.[14][15]

Prijović released song "Bogata sirotinja" (The Wealthy Poor) on 21 June 2019 as the first single from her second studio album.[15] In March 2020, she got a recurring role in several episodes of the fourth season of the television series Ubice mog oca (My Father's Murderers). Prijović also wrote the song "Duguješ mi dva života" (You Owe Me Two Lives), which was released on 28 February of the same year, as the series main soundtrack.[16][17] On 22 September of the same year, Prijović released "Legitimno" (Legitimate), as the second single from her second studio album. "Legitimno" accumulated over 55 million views on YouTube to this date and also become one of the biggest hits in Balkans.[18] She founded her own music label A Music, under which she released her second studio album, Zvuk tišine (Sound of Silence), on 21 July 2022. The album gained huge success in Serbia and in the region.[19] Almost all songs from this album became hits and the total number of YouTube views counts more than 100 millions. Zvuk tišine contained twelve new tracks. The tracks "Sabotiram" (I Sabotage) and "Ja sam odlično" (I Am Great), reached number ten, while "Javno mesto" (Public Place) and "Marš" (Go to Hell) simultaneously reached the top-25 on Billboard's newly established Croatia Songs chart.

2023–present: Devet života and Od Istoka do Zapada Tour

Prijović released "Kuća strave" (House of Horror) on 22 June 2023, as the lead single from her third studio album Devet života (Nine Lives). In support of the album, she embarked on her debut headlining and her debut arena tour titled Od Istoka do Zapada (From East to West) Tour. The tour is set to visit other major cities in the region, starting with a concert in Belgrade, Serbia at Štark Arena on 29 September 2023.[20]

Personal life

Prijović started dating Filip Živojinović, the son of Serbian tennis player Slobodan Živojinović and the stepson of turbo-folk singer Lepa Brena. The couple got married on 21 June 2018, in Belgrade, Serbia, where they currently live.[2][21] When she got pregnant, she took a short break from her music career, and on 6 March 2019, she gave birth to her first child, Aleksandar.[22]
