Chocolate, Sour Apple, and Bubble Gum Dum Dum Pops

Dum Dum Pop or Dum Dums is a sphere-shaped lollipop named by I.C. Bahr, a Sales Manager at the Akron Candy Company in Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. In 1953 the Dum Dum Pop was purchased by the Spangler Candy Company and moved manufacturing to Bryan, Ohio. The founder of Dum Dums was John Phillips. Dum Dums are made from sugar and corn syrup that is cooked before coloring and flavoring are added. After pressing, the stick is then added.

Dum Dums are made in about sixteen different flavors; nine or ten of these flavors are classic flavors; 5 or 6 are cycled in and out. The "Mystery Flavor," present in every bag of Dum Dums, is a combination of two flavors in the bag. Mystery flavors are typically formed when the main machine is switching from one flavor 'strand' to another, thus resulting in truly random combinations of two differing tastes with each batch.
