In spite of myself, I have become a well meaning Wikipedian

Re: about the other day...

Dear Jeffpw,

I would like to apologize to you for the harsh comments and the sudden block yesterday. I admit I should have spoken with you about this issue and I should have left you a reminder instead of blocking you. I would like to also apologize if I had caused you to feel that you need to review your participation on Wikipedia. Looking back into your contributions, I believe that you are a good contributor to this online project, and that your participation has made this a better encyclopedia. I would also like to add that if and when X3210 returns from his block, that instead of reverting his edits, that you will discuss with him, attempt to understand his concerns and his positions, and remind him that edit warring and constant reverting will solve nothing. I hope that you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia, and that you will not leave this project as a result of the block. I hope that we could put this incident behind us, and that we can contribute and collaborate, to make Wikipedia a better encyclopedia. I wish you all the best in all and any of your endeavours.

Yours Sincerely,

Nat

FA Buddying

Jeff, could you mention this in the next newsletter so we can get some idea of how many people would be interested in participating in this on both sides? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 19:16, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, honey! By the way, I keep meaning to email you, but between work and the usual insanity here I have been remiss. Please forgive me and expect an email tomorrow. Love, Jeffpw (talk) 19:44, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I'm in the same boat. How do you think we should go about the Portal? Just update it with all the FAs and picture and PPR it or what? I want to get it over with, it's been hanging around for months now. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 13:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was thinking that since it is now assigned to that "Random" thingie, we could simply add every FA and GA article to the list, as well as "B" articles at our discretion. That would solve the updating problem for the bulk of the Portal. The rest I would be willing to update on a weekly or semi-weekly basis. Jeffpw (talk) 13:34, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was thinking that for the articles, and maybe the pictures too. I'll add a whole load of stuff over the weekend. Do you think we should bring the news section back? I thought that was the most useful part of the portal, personally. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 14:56, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
yes, let's do! I will personally oversee that starting after the holidays. I have 365gay.com on my home page, so can update it practically daily with news items. Jeffpw (talk) 14:58, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I will start with that as soon as I wake up from my nap then - god, between this, the LGBT history textbook I've started researching with some way overly enthusiastic other people, and alcohol, I don't think I'll be seeing anything straight this Christmas... :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 15:08, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Straight? Straight?!? let's hope not dear. Think of how disappointed so many young lesbians would be if that were so. Jeffpw (talk) 15:10, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Christmas card

Jeff, thanks for the card. I'm not as wiki-savvy as you are, so I don't know how to find/create a card of my own to return the favor, but please know that the sentiment is returned! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever's appropriate, and have a wonderful vacation! Applejuicefool (talk) 20:11, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for my card as well. Have a happy holiday season! -- Kendrick7talk 20:40, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jeff, I was going to leave a message on Riana's talk page, but when I try to leave the message, it gets included in your card. I think there's something missing on your card to close the syntax, but I'm not sure what. If you know how to fix this, could you please do so? Thank you. --Kyoko 20:43, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I have a message someone left me that has been incorporated into your card. So you can see on my talk page exactly what Kyoko is talking about. I don't know how to fix it either. Aleta (talk) 20:56, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest looking at one of the many RfA thank you cards and see if you can find whatever must be missing. I think I have some in my User talk:Kyoko/Archive16 if you need examples. Hope this helps. Happy holidays to you too! --Kyoko 21:06, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Merry, merry, happy, happy to you, too, Jeff. Thanks for the card. :D Peace on earth, good will to all most ;p . deeceevoice (talk) 20:52, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jeff! If I could make an even nicer card and leave it here, I would, but we both know that's not going to happen, so you'll have to take my word for it. All the best! •97198 talk 04:53, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Xmas card.

Thanks a million for the cute Xmas card! What a great idea!

The only problem is that it somehow messes up the rest of the page display from the point where you insert it on downwards - so I couldn't see the next message on my talk page! I took a look at the Wikicode and didn't see anything immediately broken...but clearly something is.

Santa

I am surprised at the heated arguments about Santa Claus. As my name suggests, I am more interested in the Easter Bunny but have some warm feelings for the Easter Bunny's colleague, Santa.

Because of my user name, I feel some may think that I have a conflict of interest so I have not tried to mediate the situation.

I can understand some of the feelings about editing the WP Santa Claus article. We should be mindful of a neutral viewpoint, editing with sources, and compassion to children without censoring information. That's the WP way for any article.

Part of a compromise could be editing that the sprit of Christmas giving, like St. Nicholas, continued centuries later (are there sources to confirm this obvious statement?). We might even go so far as to say that parents participate in maintaining the giving spirit of giving and re-tell the tales of Santa Claus (assuming we can find sources).

The slightly dishonest part is when the news, air force or meteorologists report that they are tracking the path of Santa's sleigh. There are references to that. However, the references are not accurate (I don't think radar really shows Santa) and there may not be references that the radar reports are an embellishment of Christmas spirit. (If a person, any person even Santa, could cover the entire world in 24 hours, covering most homes in every time zone, that person is a space alien and not a person. That space alien would be a boon to UPS, DHL, or Fedex, who could lay off their entire workforce and hire just Santa)

Let's hope that nobody will want to use this source, which the headlines is more sensational than the body of the story. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1060040.stm Children cry as fake Santa arrested

Thanks

Cute Christmas card! I grew up with a secular Christmas, if there really is such a thing, but that's because my Jewish mom was still reeling from the self-hating craziness of her parents when I was a kid. Now I'm a Channukah person in December... but my family likes to say "Happy XmaChannuKwanStice!" (I actually dislike Kwanzaa, which I feel is my prerogative as an African American, but that's another story...) Cheers, Melty girl (talk) 22:56, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I grew up with both Christmas and Channukah (mixed marriage), and celebrate both today. December is a wonderful month, with all the festivities in all the different cultures! It really brings out the kid in me. Happy holidays, honey! Jeffpw (talk) 23:21, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's to mixed marriages and happy holidaze! --Melty girl (talk) 23:26, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Hi Jeff. Thanks for the really great card. Unfortunately I'm not very good at creating such things but I wish you happy holidays too. You have really been extremely helpful and I appreciate it very much! You are the exception that makes me keep trying! Cheers, EconomicsGuy (talk) 06:05, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this can be used on the Larry Craig article but I thout you'd get a giggle regardless. I'm hoping a fully free version will be released but it's from the Southern Strategy Group which doesn't, as of yet, have an article. Benjiboi 06:10, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Closing tags on Xmas card

I didn't notice until an anon posted a message to my talk, but you needed a couple closing tags on your card, a close table (|}) and a bunch of </div> tags, specifically, which seemed to do the trick. It very briefly looked like I'd gotten a Christmas card from the Nazi party,[1] and given my block history, there's way too much irony there! -- 20:18, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boy, he didn't really learn very much from you, did he? Well, you know what they say... when the student fails, the teacher has also failed. I think they add, unless the student is a boob, in which case, the teacher is in the clear. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 14:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Having just seen the "indef block for Jeeny" thread on AN/I, I think I've thought of a new strategy. Rather than bothering with level 1, 2, 3, 4 templates, AIV, anti-vandal bots, all that, just get vandals adopted by Jeff. This seems to lead to indefinite blocks for the vandals and fun for all for everybody else within a matter of days. In fact given long enough everybody except me would be indef blocked, leaving me free to edit Wikipedia just how I want. The blocked users could still edit their talkpages, of course, so I could go and visit FQ's peanut gallery. Hmmm. I like this idea. Have a good Yule, all. Two days to the Solstice. Tonywalton Talk 01:22, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So demoralizing, and this at Christmas, too. Maybe from now on I'll just correct spelling errors and maintain a very low profile here. Jeffpw (talk) 10:40, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't give up Jeffpw! You're not the short-bus driver just a well-meaning adoptive mom who's had two rough deliveries. Someday your very own Brad Pitt will come along and you'll have a rainbow of children all your own! Benjiboi 16:14, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Benjiboi. Thta was actually the kindest thing I have heard in days :-( Jeffpw (talk) 19:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lol! There's some saying 'no good deed goes unpunished' it's probably a Simpson's mantra as well. I figured you were on a rewind course as you said nothing about this bit of holiday cheer! Give Miss Julie a designer cocktail and suddenly the whole world will be sleeping with you again! Benjiboi 19:56, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
