Cracked Actors deletion

Hi John i have just found out that my page "Cracked Actors" was deleted as i'm the drummer in that band and everything i have said in the article is from my time in the band, can i ask why?

i understand that there is a mention of a punk band from birmingham "cracked actors" but they were short lived and where split a long time before our founding members thought of using the name for our band.....

As we have been going as a band from 1999 and are still going strong, i wished to start an article to show our history as a band on wiki.

can you suggest how i can get our band on here, as i have lots of stories to tell....

tim Johnson (Tim bali) cracked actors — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym1962 (talkcontribs) 09:41, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but Wikipedia is not a place for people to write about themselves and their bands - that's what sites like Myspace are for. We don't perhaps make it as clear as we should, but Wikipedia is different - it's a project to build an encyclopedia, and that means it is quite selective about subjects for articles. See WP:BAND for what a band need to have achieved before they can have a Wikipedia article, and WP:No original research for why this isn't the place for you to tell your stories, interesting though I'm sure they are. Educational Project

Hi, John. Last year, when I was doing a university project in my editing class, you posted some helpful links on my talk page. I just wanted to thank you for that and let you know that my class is doing another Wikipedia project again this year. If you have any hints or advice for getting Wikipedians to stop in and check on what my students are doing in the next few weeks, please feel free to drop me a line. Best wishes!--Mportolano (talk) 15:36, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting United Planet

Hi John,

My name is Amy and I'm the Marketing Coordinator for United Planet. I know that our page was recently deleted due to lack of credible sources etc. I wanted to see if we can connect so I can find out how to best abide by the policies in order to have our page live. We are not looking for ads or self promotion but are a legitimate 501C3 organization and I do see other similar organizations on Wikipedia. If you can provide any further info on how we can have our own page, that would be great. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks, Amy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.197.199 (talk) 18:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles about this organization have already been deleted several times - read the record of the discussions at
In each case, the concern was Wikipedia:Notability, the name for the criterion Wikipedia uses to decide what is a suitable subject for an article. Notability is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people independent of the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? More detail at WP:42 and WP:Notability (organizations and companies).
Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, not a site like like, say, Myspace for organizations to write about themselves. User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard explains this in more detail. It is extremely resistant to being used for any kind of promotion: as you work for the organization you have, from our point of view, a WP:Conflict of interest, and should read that guideline and WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.
What you should do first is, consider carefully whether the organization can really show notability in the sense defined above. The previous deletions make this seem doubtful. If not, it is no discredit to it - many good and worthy organizations are not suitable subjects for an encyclopedia - but trying to make an article about it will only be a waste of your time and ours. Being a good cause does not provide exemption - see Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause.
If you think you can show notability, you will need to set up a Wikipedia account - see WP:REGISTER. Do not choose a user name which is that of an organization - your account must be for you as an individual, and you will be personally responsible for it. If you do that, send me a message from your account, and I will provide more advice and show you how to make a draft article in your "user space" and how to request permission to make it "live." Wikipedia is not a site for writing about yourself - for that, you need a site like Myspace or LinkedIn. This is a project to build an encyclopedia. The messages on your talk page will tell you more. JohnCD (talk) 10:06, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:Milramteam

You have given that user a permanent ban, but I had started a sockpuppet process on User:Milram2010, or which Milramteam was the only registered sock (many IPs were also used, as can be seen on the edit history of the various Robert Young articles, now deleted). Where does that leave the Milram2010 account? Kevin McE (talk) 10:40, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Let the SPI carry on - I have made a note there that I have blocked Milramteam (blocked, not banned - they're different). It all looks very odd - there is an article about Team Milram which says it disbanded in 2010 though someone "hopes to form a new team for 2012". By the way, I used a "softerblock" which invites Milramteam to set up a new, individual account representing only him, not the team, so if he does that it will not be socking. JohnCD (talk) 10:58, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Edits by Milram2010/Milramteam did not attempt to represent either the company Milram, or the now defunct Team Milram cycling team. Both accounts, and a number of IPs, have had only one interest: to post claims about a cyclist/triathlete called Robert Young, with a total disregard for requests that these claims have some verification. Some of the claims have been demonstrably false, some have been plausible but totally unverified, some have been highly POV. Kevin McE (talk) 11:13, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, these Robert Young edits look very dodgy but, subject to the SPI, I don't think they are (yet) enough to block for - I blocked Milramteam because we don't allow usernames that seem to be names of organizations. JohnCD (talk) 14:30, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted the page Mário Vargas Santos Do Nascimento

Greetings!

I am talking on behalf of the small company called the Hi-tech. We are responsable for the creationg of this page. Several people who we work with also think it is very useful for them.
The wikipedia page has received views as well as positive feedback. I don't understand why delete it, if at least 100 people watch it every week.
It is useful for the work I, as a professor, always give, since the last week,to my university students to prepare for the thesis.

Thank You.

93.102.147.44 (talk) 19:38, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted because it did not show why the subject was important or significant enough to have an encyclopedia article. Subjects for Wikipedia articles need to have WP:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about?
Also, the Wikipedia:Verifiability policy requires that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source."
The page was up for less than 8 hours - input at 10:12 today, and deleted at 17:49 - so I do not see how you can say that "at least 100 people watch it every week."
I presume you are user CrazyTyp0 (talk), and I have left some links on your talk page to tell you more about Wikipedia. JohnCD (talk) 20:18, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pete Webering Page Deletion

The Pete Webering article that was deleted was not intended to be offensive in nature. It is his (Pete Weber) trademark celebration dance and we are looking to start a new "phenomenon" similar to Tebowing, Linsanity or Planking. Please let me know what we need to do to get this page approved.

Thank you Pawajgel (talk) 20:20, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Paul Wajgel[reply]

Earthrace Page

I am wondering why you deleted the page "Earthrace Conservation Organization" in September 2011. I understand it may be copyright violation, but may I recreate it with permission of the founder? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blb9556 (talkcontribs) 02:20, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was indeed deleted as a copyright violation but, while you could arrange a copyright release, that text would in any case not be suitable for an encyclopedia article, being in written in promotional terms and from rather than about the organization: "We are calling for... we hope to bring about lasting change... We also support... " etc, and lacking any independent references to show notability. Read User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard. More advice on your talk page soon, but it may be a few days. Truveris page

Hi JohnCD,

I was hoping you would re-review the Truveris page which is in the Sandbox. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jurhyu/Truveris#External_links Since notability was a concern, I have added some other articles which may help to show Truveris does have notability in the press. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.74.152.202 (talk) 19:30, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As you restored it after it was contested, I thought I'd let you know nothing has happened to it to improve it - still unreferenced and to my mind non-notable. Peridon (talk) 16:55, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know: I restored it because of this request at REFUND, but I see there has been no improvement, and I have absolutely no problem with it being taken to AfD. JohnCD (talk) 22:06, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cliché Hot Page

Hi John, I was hoping you wouldn't mind undeleting Cliché Hot I belive the consensus for deleting was a lack of contributions to the page, I'm willing to take the challenge of filling it up.  Done. I closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cliché Hot as SOFTDELETE, so I have restored it on your request. NONSENSE

The Galapagas should have not been deleted, it would have became better in time because i was going to introduce my friends to this creature, by the way, i have a huge Galapagas outside my window, looking for food... how do you explain it silly, when it is real. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.165.175.154 (talk) 21:04, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lean Engineering

John,

Can I get Lean Engineering put in my sandbox. I would like to do the work needed to get it posted.

I know I need references, but other than clearing up the copyright concern (which I own leanengineering.com), can you tell me what else is wrong with it?

Thanks,

Sorry, but we cannot accept copyright material on the basis of an assertion of ownership - copyright is a very serious matter for Wikipedia, and we have no way to be certain that someone on the end of a wire is who he says. I do see other problems, but I am afraid I am out of time tonight - I will reply on your talk page within 24 hours. For a start, read WP:No original research.
