13 Voices is the sixth studio album by Canadian punk rock band Sum 41 is set for release on October 7, 2016. It will be the first album to feature former guitarist Dave Baksh since 2004's Chuck and the first to feature drummer Frank Zummo, who replaced former drummer Steve Jocz. It will also be the first recorded as a five-piece as Tom Thacker who replaced Baksh in 2006 remained with the group. On May 11, 2016, Sum 41 announced their signing to Hopeless Records.[1]

On July 9, 2015, the band launched a PledgeMusic campaign for its comeback album.[2] On July 23, 2015, the band played its comeback show at the Alternate Press Awards, which featured former lead guitarist Dave Baksh, joining them on stage nine years after officially leaving the band. The band's set also featured DMC as a guest. Since the performance, rumors speculated that Dave had returned to the band rather than being just a guest. On August 14, 2015, Sum 41 announced through Alternative Press that Baksh officially returned to the group and will appear on the upcoming album. On December 26, 2015, Sum 41 teased two new songs on their Instagram account. On January 1, 2016, Deryck Whibley published on their Facebook page that the new album is almost finished.[3]

The band is set to perform on the 2016 Warped Tour.[4] On April 19, 2016, Whibley published on their Facebook page that Sum 41 is finishing the new album.[5] On May 11, 2016, Sum 41 announced their signing to Hopeless Records. On June 1, 2016, Sum 41 has announced the album will be released in the fall of 2016.[6]

Development

On November 26, 2012, the band members revealed that they were taking a break from touring in 2013 to begin work on a new record.[7] On April 18, 2013, drummer Jocz announced he would be leaving the band via his official Facebook page,[8] leaving Whibley as the sole founding member of the band. In an interview on February 7, 2014, Deryck revealed that the band has possibly found a new drummer and would be premiering new music "soon".[9] The expected sixth album would have been the band's first with Whibley and McCaslin as the only two band members from the group's original release left, until Baksh's return in 2015, which will also be his first album with band since 2004's "Chuck". The album will also be the band's first without founding drummer Steve Jocz, and the first to feature drummer Frank Zummo.

On May 16, 2014, Deryck Whibley posted on his personal website, explaining that he had a liver and kidney failure due to extensive drinking. He also stated that he had some ideas for new songs, and that the band would be soon starting to make a new album.[10] On June 9, 2014, Deryck Whibley has stated on his personal Facebook page that he was working on new Sum 41 music out of his home studio to get ready to record some new tunes.[11] On March 19, 2015, a short video was posted on the band's Facebook page, showing only a speaker and showcasing a song snippet not belonging to any previous recording of the band, hinting new music is about to be finished.

On June 6, 2016, Sum 41 announced that their upcoming album would be titled 13 Voices, and is scheduled for release on October 7, 2016.[12]
