6WIND is a French technology company specializing in high performance networking software.
The company is privately held and headquartered in the West Paris area, in Montigny-Le-Bretonneux. 6WIND presence is worldwide with a US subsidiary, sales and support offices in Japan and South Korea, and an R&D center in China.
The company provides packet processing software that delivers 10x the network performance for physical and virtual Linux networks applications. Its offerings historically include source code networking stacks, but most recently Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions.
History
6WIND, founded in 2000, was created as a spin-out from Thales Group (previously Thomson-CSF), a provider of electronics products for the aerospace, defense and security markets. It has been venture-funded in 2014 by Cisco.
Operations
Partners include Red Hat, VMware and Wind River.[1] Equipment vendors that provide boards and systems utilizing 6WIND software include Emerson Network Power.[2]

Products
As a contributor to the DPDK Open Source project since 2013, 6WIND mainly develops DPDK based solutions.

In early 2012, 6WIND introduced 6WINDGate Mobile Edition and 6WINDGate Cloud Edition, for the 4G mobile infrastructure and cloud computing markets.[4]
Speed Series
The company developed NFV technologies and announced its Speed Series line of packaged software in late 2014.

The first NFV solution launched the same year with the product called 6WIND Virtual Accelerator allowing hypervisor scaling.
- Turbo Appliances
In early 2015, the company decided to emphasize on NFV solution and announced its Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec software.
In 2016 Radware announced that its Alteon NG VA line Application Delivery Controllers can reach 20 Gbps throughput with 6WIND Virtual Accelerator in an OpenStack environment. That same year Mirantis announced integration with 6WIND for high performance data centers and NFV infrastructures.
Performance was publicly shared by organizations such as SDxCentral that published a performance report of 6WIND’s Speed Series based on third-party testing at Ixia Labs.
Light Reading mentioned also that 6WIND’s software has allowed NGI, an Italian service provider, to build an SDN router.
