Rezaul Karim Chowdhury (Template:Lang-bn)is a Bangladeshi politician and 4th Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation. He is also the joint general secretary of Chattogram Mahanagar Awami League.[1][2]
Political career
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has been involved in politics since his student days. In 1967, while still a college student, he became involved in politics as a general member of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. He was the organizing secretary of Chittagong College Chhatra League in 1969-1970 and acting general secretary in 1970-1971. As a student he participated in the Bangladesh liberation war in guerrilla warfare through BLF in Sector 1. The freedom fighter took part in direct battles in Panchlaish and Kotwali Thana of Chittagong.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was the organizing secretary of Chittagong North District Chhatra League in 1973-1975. He was admitted to the law department of Chittagong University to study. But due to the change of pot of '75, he could not give the final test in the active resistance fight against the military misrule.[citation needed] Later in 1980 he was elected a member of the executive committee of Chittagong Mahanagar Awami Jubo League. He served as the Information and Research Secretary of Chittagong Mahanagar Awami League in 1996-2007 and as the Organizing Secretary of Chittagong Mahanagar Awami League in 2006-2014. He is known in the politics of Chittagong as a clean politician.[citation needed] Since[when?] he is serving as the Senior Joint General Secretary of Nagar Awami League.
Personal life
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was born on 31 May 1953 in the Bahardar family of the traditional and ancient zamindar clan of East Sholashahar ward 7 under Chandgaon police station in Chittagong.He is married to Selina Akter and has a son and two daughter
Education
The former men of the former Greater Panchlaish Thana established the East Sholashahar Primary School on their own land at Bahardar Hat in 1820 to spread education in the area. He passed 5th class from that school in 1972 and later SSC from Chittagong Government Muslim High School. HSC from Chittagong College And obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chittagong and then enrolled to study law.
