Auld Mortality is a Big Finish Productions audio drama based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. The Doctor Who Unbound dramas pose a series of "What if...?" questions.[1]

Plot

What if... the Doctor and Susan had never left Gallifrey?

Until now, the Doctor has been content to live his life in seclusion, letting his imagination roam free through his Possibility Generator and only writing stories about adventures in time and space.[2] But all that is about to change when Susan comes to see what has become of her grandfather.

Cast

Other parts played by members of the cast.

Notes

  • Marc Platt is also the author of the Seventh Doctor novel Lungbarrow, which explores the Doctor's early life. Many elements of that story appear in this story. However, many of those aspects have been altered, including Susan's origin. Quences and Badger are characters who first appeared in Lungbarrow.
  • The versions of the Doctor and Susan heard in this story return in the sequel A Storm of Angels.
  • At the end of the episode, Geoffrey Bayldon wishes everyone at home a "Merry Other-mass" during an audio montage. It references a similar comment made by William Hartnell, breaking the fourth wall, during "The Feast of Steven" episode of The Daleks' Master Plan.Geoffrey Bayldon was offered but turned down the roles of both the First and Second Doctors.
