Biography

Adekunle was born in North London, England.[1] She studied theology at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) degree.[2] She went on to complete two Master of Arts (MA) degrees: she studied African Christianity and development at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; and pastoral care and counselling at Ridley Hall, Cambridge while also training for ordination.[2][3]

She was ordained in the Church of England in 2007. From 2007 to 2011, she was curate and then priest-in-charge at St Luke's Church, Hackney in Homerton, London.[2] During this time she was also a chaplain at Homerton Hospital and St Mellitus College.[1] From 2011 to 2016, she was chaplain of St John's College, Cambridge.[2][3]

On 1 July 2015, Adekunle was announced as the next Archdeacon of Hackney in the Diocese of London, in succession to Rachel Treweek.[4] She was collated as archdeacon on 5 April 2016.[5]
