Ryūgasakishi Station (龍ケ崎市駅, Ryūgasakishi-eki), also known as Sanuki Station (佐貫駅, Sanuki-eki) is a railway station in Ryūgasaki, Ibaraki, Japan, operated jointly by East Japan Railway (JR East) and Kanto Railway.

Name

The station was originally named Sanuki in 1900. In 2020, JR East changed the name of the station to Ryūgasakishi, but Kanto Railway still uses the original name.[1]

Lines

Ryūgasakishi Station is served by the Jōban Line, and is located 45.5 km from the official starting point of the line at Nippori Station. Located in the same place, Sanuki Station is a terminus of the Kanto Railway Ryūgasaki Line, a subsidiary of the Keisei Electric Railway. Kanto Railway also provides bus services from the station.[2]

Layout

The JR East portion of the station (i.e. Ryūgasakishi Station) has one side platform and one island platform, connected to the elevated station building by an overhead passageway. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi ticket office. The Kanto Railway portion of the station (i.e. Sanuki Station) has one side platform.

History

Sanuki Station opened on August 14, 1900.[3] The current station building was completed in March 1985. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.

On March 14, 2020, the JR station was renamed to Ryūgasakishi Station (龍ケ崎市駅, Ryūgasakishi-eki). The city of Ryūgasaki requested the name change and fully bore the cost of 410 million yen.[1]

Some limited express Tokiwa services stop at Ryūgasakishi.[4]
