Barrister Babu is an Indian social drama television series that premiered 11 February 2020 on Colors TV.[1] The show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions and stars Aurra Bhatnagar, Pravisht Mishra . [2] In The UK, this series airs from every Mon-Fri, 8:30PM on Colors Rishtey.

Barrister Babu revolves around child bride Bondita Das who married Anirudh Roy Choudhary in her childhood and how Anirudh fights society for her education and helps make her a barrister.[3]

Plot

Anirudh Roy Choudhary returns to his hometown Tulsipur after completing his studies in London and becoming a barrister. He is deeply concerned about the stereotypical and regressive rituals and customs that make India a backward country. Bondita Das is a curious and anxious eight year old girl who has her own perspective of viewing the world. However, her point of view is not accepted by her family.

Anirudh's family get angered when they learn that he wants to remove the shackles of casteism from the country. Anirudh wants a change in the mindset of the people for a progressive future. Anirudh and Saudamini are childhood lovers. Their match has always been approved by their families.

Bondita puts forth two conditions for marriage and writes a letter to her would be husband stating that she would eat lots of sweets and would bring her mom along. By chance, this letter reaches Anirudh who appreciates the thinking and outlook. Bondita's groom is a sixty year old man who dies inbetween the wedding and the village people try to force Bondita to commit sati. Bondita falls unconscious and Anirudh, in a bid to protect her life ends up marrying her.

Production

The production and airing of the show was halted indefinitely in late March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak in India.[5] Because of the outbreak, the filming of television series and films was halted on 19 March 2020 and expected to resume on 1 April 2020 but could not and the series was last broadcast on 31 March 2020 when the remaining episodes were aired.[6][7] The production resumed on 25 June 2020.[8]
